I can find out more if you want. I can drive over there and check out the park next weekend and find the best spot.

This park might work really well.

You can fish. I have 5 kayaks I could bring if I can find someone to drive my truck over.

You can even camp. I always want to do a Corvette Camp out.

No camping for me as I spent enough time in tent's over in the sandbox. My idea of roughing it now is a 4 star hotel with no TV remote!

Pam, that would be great if you have time to cruise over the hill and take a look in person.

Not sure about kayaks or camping, but I'm guessing there could be pretty good participation for a cruise up and picnic. :burnout:eat:

Thanks for stepping up!

I will drive over there the first chance I get and check it out.

It is a nice drive up and over Mingus Mt. They finally smoothed out some of the bumps.

For you non campers there were some cabins that looked really close to the Verde River!

I will check out the cabins also since I also like the comforts of home.

I've been scraping some data waiting to hear back from Eddie on the park ranger. The Dead Hose Ranch website has some info on larger group reservations.

I was going to call them and check next week, along with calling both an area in Sedona and/or Cottonwood's Garrison Park.

Sedona's Posse Ground Park looks pretty nice too if we can get that Ramada area

Cottonwood’s Dead Horse Ranch State Park

Reservations Center: 520-586-2283 – Fee $5 per ramada site

Raven Loop sites Res: 928-634-5283

Info: http://azstateparks.com/Parks/DEHO/facilities.html

Reservations: https://azstateparks.itinio.com/deadhorseranch/

Raven Loop Ramada: 10 picnic, 60-80 peeps. 2 large grills. 50yards from restroom. No day-use parking? Only camp site parking?

South River Day Use Ramadas – 6 tables, grill, restroom. 30-40 peeps.

Sedona’s Posse Ground Park / Barbara Antonsen Memorial Park

525 Posse Ground Road, Sedona AZ 86336

928-282-7098

Ramada’s 1, 7, 8, 9, 10 = $55 (6 tables + game table)

Ramada’s 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 = $50 (5 tables + empty + right next to grass area [+$15])

Cottonwood’s Garrison Park

Just FYI before we make any reservations we always did the Fathers Day cruise the weekend before or after the actual holiday. That way folks could spend the holiday with family.

I too took that into consideration. I'm looking specifically at the weekend before, Saturday, June 10th. My daughter has a dance recital the weekend after.

BTW, I called Dead Horse today, and they can do a large group, but it's not cheap. $65 per Ramada (two picnic tables) in the Los Alamos Day Use Area, which is a looped drive with several ramadas and parking spread out all over the loop. Also, a group reservation only gets 5 cars, and each additional car is $7. So, say with 3 ramadas @$195 + $175 (30 cars) or $195 (50 cars), you're looking at well over $300 for an ACE cruise and picnic. Donations would help, but that's still pretty steep for a couple hour picnic.

Cottonwood's Garrison Park is another possibility. Looks like it's got a fairly large parking lot, and several additional lot's in the vicinity.  We can reserve the area for $25/hour +3% tax, $40 refundable cleaning deposit.  Comes with 1 ramada, picnic table, and BBQ grill. So, ACEholes would definitely need a blanket or chairs for the picnic.

I've got a call into the Sedona Parks folks also for the Posse Ground Park area, but they don't work Friday's.

If they don't bump the prices, ramada's there are ~ $10/hour and have several grills and what looks like a large parking lot West/adjacent to the circle of ramadas.

So, say with even 4-5 ramada's and can probably even encroach onto the neighboring "multi-use" field for a proper blanket picnic, we're looking at $100 for two hours.

This site might be our best bet, but I'll have to wait until Monday to report back.

Pam,

Given the prices I was quoted over the phone for the Dead Horse park, I think that's out.

I would like to see if you have time to make a couple trips to check out the other two options I have in mind.

  1. Is it easily accessible, especially for very low profile Vette's.
  2. How does the parking look? Is there enough room immediately adjacent to the park, or is there at least enough fairly nearby (read: a short walk across a street)
  3. What's your feel for picnic space? Is there a lot of shade? Is there enough space for a bunch of chairs, blankets, EZ-Up's?

Spot 1: Cottonwood's Garrison Park - Come in off Mingus Ave. (east) from 89A, turn right (South) on Brian Mickelsen Pkwy and make the first Left into that larger parking lot where the actual park & a ramada should be on the right.

https://goo.gl/maps/ygbR6XcXNb52

Spot 2:  Sendona's Posse Ground Park - Come in off 89A heading North on Posse Ground Rd., and a left into what they're calling the "upper lot", and also please check out the "lower lot".  Upper seems to be maybe 30 car parking lot and right next to the ramada circle, but the lower is larger and a short path walkway to the ramada's.

I've got a bad feeling that the upper lot might be both too small (if we have over 30 cars), and a steep transition/incline off of Posse Ground Rd., that may cause some splitter scrapage.

Upper Lot: https://goo.gl/maps/LR8YYE96Ndn

Lower Lot: https://goo.gl/maps/ssZfpxUeUvq

If you can't get out to one or either of these in the next couple weeks to a month, let me know. I can probably also find some time or additional minions to scout out these new and uncharted locations.

Much appreciated!
