The ever unpopular "I need to lose weight" thread

Man.....I don't know if eating oatmeal for breakfast is helping me or not. I'm usually hungry 2 hours after eating the stuff....I guess because of the carbo based blood sugar spikes. My hunger seems to subside when having egg white omelets for breakfast instead, which contains more protien content. It just takes more time to prepare in the morning which can be a pain in the arse. Anyone else eat oatmeal for breakfast and experience the same thing.....getting hungry sooner than you normally do ?

Protein is the most satiating macronutrient. Some people when they eat carbs it makes them hungrier. When I was dieting down for the show i had scheduled refeeds once a week where my carb intake would be substantially higher. I was hungriest on those days despite the increase in food. I honestly think you could get away with eating a lot more. Carbs are the main contributor to your metabolism so eating as much as you can while still losing weight is optimal. Are you following more of a Keto/Atkins type of diet?

FYI... If you're all into oatmeal, and I do it for breakfast 2 or 3 days a week too... Quaker has a "weight control" version of their instant oatmeal that has protein powder in it, so you get like 7 grams per packet if I remember right. The taste ain't the greatest as the protein powder just tastes odd in there, but... You get your protein for the morning. I get it at Wal-Mart. http://www.quakeroats.com/products/oatmeal/weight-control/maple-and-brown-sugar.aspx

I'm not following any diet plan per say.....just watching what I eat and augmenting my meals with that ISO-100 protien product. But, I will admit to watching the fat and carb content when that info is available. I've concentrated more on eating higher protien meals, with lunch time consisting of : 1) an occassional Subway 6 inch Black Forest and egg white sandwich on flat bread with all the veggies, cheese slices, and no dressings. 2) an occassional visit to Samuri Sam's for the Teryaki Chicken bowl with all veggies...no rice, but with sauce. 3) or, just my low sugar oatmeal packets with dried cranberries (or raisins), almond slices, and hazzlenuts mixed in. Dinner time (4:30-5:00 p.m.), I've alternated between egg white omelets with veggies, jalepeno slices, one crumbled turkey sausage or sliced turket breast, and cheese....or a chicken breast with a large salad and a can of green beans. I'll eat an apple or orange or a packet of oatmeal later in the evening if I become hungry again....augmented with the ISO-100 drink. I drink water, green tea, or MIO spiked water most of the time......no soda, sweetened tea (unless it's honey), etc. I started drinking an occassional black coffee at the office in the morning, using the ISO-100 chocolate powder to flavor the coffee instead of any cream or sugar.

Poppa.....that is the version I get from Quaker as well, along with the Fry's (Kroger branded) low sugar versions. As I drink the whey protien supplements with breakfast as well, along with adding almonds and hazlenuts (walnuts on occassions), I think I'm getting sufficient protien intake in the morning.....more so when I eat the egg white breakfasts.

But, the darn oatmeal doesn't last very long in my system, and certainly doesn't "stick to your ribs" like the old wive's tale would suggest.

Do you see any difference in your appetite and hunger pangs when you eat oatmeal for the morning breakfast ?

I have an old wife, but she doesn't have a tail. However, she occasionally will tell a tale or two. :smilelol

I have just gotten used to being on a lower calorie diet (if you call 2500 calories low...), so oatmeal fills me up OK. I don't really notice a difference. Most of the day I'm not that hungry. I tend to be hungry later in the evening.

I'm down to 208! My goal is 200 in three weeks.

Excellent, Constable Yoder !!!! :partydance:

I indulged in a burger and fries twice on Sunday up in Carefree and in New River, as we took a long 5 hour four wheel drive trek from Seven Springs to New River/I-17 via LN-41 (?).

Back to my regular diet today, but the burger and fries surely hit the spot :edward:

:agree Every couple of months I get a craving for a Big Mac, fries, and an Oreo McFlurry. Only 1730 yummy calories in 15 minutes.

Hows everyone doing? I started the week at 188 and thats when I began depleting for weight ins. This morning I was 182.8 and weigh ins are at 6 so I dont see it being a problem hitting 181s by then since Im fasting the whole day.

I'm about the same, I do good one some days and not so good on others, discipline needs help... I think my stomach is a little smaller and my pants keep falling off so maybe I'm getting somewhere.

I haven't weighed myself in like a month. I moved and my scale is in storage. Also, being a bit homeless at the moment, it's been hard to stay as rigid on my diet, and I'm only in the gym a couple days a week now. I'll get back on track as soon as I have a home....

Holding at 219. Slacked a bit on the dieting bit with family in town and traveling the month of April, and I took some time off from the walks/jogs to give my knee some recovery time. I really like my buddy's new elliptical he purchased last month, but I don't have the expendable income to drop on a $2300 piece of gym equipment at the moment...and I don't have the floor space in my house to park one :banghead The GCC fitness center is really nice and suprisingly has a lot of equipment in it (Cybex, Octane, etc.). It's only 1/2 mile from the house and only $25/month membership....I'll have a student ID card again :smilelol But, I'm back on track this month and moving forward :thumbs

Ok, so update....This past Saturday I competed in the 2012 NASA Powerlifting Western States Nationals. This was my second meet but managed to squeeze into a lower weight class. Last meet in Feb I competed in the 198 class. This time I managed to weigh in at 179.6. There were a lot of people there and they ran 2 separate platforms. Didnt get out of there till about 8pm. Day started off well. Did a lot of stretching/rolling and took my time with warmups. Everything felt "ok" as far as weight goes. Heres how my lifts went.... Squat - Opened with 485 and it moved pretty quick. Got one red which from what I heard was from taking too long to complete the lift. They were pretty strict all day seeing it was a National meet. Didnt want to push it so my 2nd attempt was 508. Felt good although it seemed to slow down some. The goal for this meet was 525 so I aimed for 523 next which was a good call IMO since I dont think I would be able to handle much more at that time. Had a sticking point halfway but pushed through it. Set a new state and World Record in the NASA org for Pure 181. Bench - Opened with 286 and although it moved ok it felt pretty heavy. I didnt want to push it so went for 303 which slowed down quite a bit more. I managed 336 last meet so my bench took a big hit from straying away from the volume. Got the 2nd attempt and shot for 314 but couldnt push through it. Deadlift - Opened with 551 and it didnt move as fast as I hoped. Shot for 585 and it felt like a grinder. I pulled 600 2 weeks prior but that was without squatting/benching singles prior. 585 moved much faster 2 weeks ago. World Record was 601 so I said screw it and requested 603. Wasnt expecting to get it since it was quite the jump and my last lift was rough. Got pretty amped but could get it off the ground lol. O well. All in all Im fairly satisfied since I still managed to increase my coefficient even though I lifted less. I was 3rd highest coefficient that day and there was a good amount of lifters there, one totaling almost 1800 lol. Heres the rundown.... Squat - 523 (new state/world record for pure 181) Bench - 303 (Hoping I can recover some of this lost strength in the next couple months) Deadlift - 585 (new state record for pure/open 181s) Total - 1411 (new state/world record for pure 181s) Here is the video from the meet.

So Im planning on hitting the July 15th San Jose meet in 10 weeks so I got some work to do. I also qualified for Raw Unity which is the biggest meet in the country. Pretty much the super bowl of powerlifting. Its in January in Texas so Im pumped to go up against the best out there.
