Cruise to Tucson, Lunch and then the Franklin Museum tour

I was thinking about getting a cruise together to go all the way down to Tucson sometime after it starts to cool down.

There is a car museum that I would like to go to called The Franklin Museum.

I tried to set this up a while back but didn't get much of a response. Now I'm gonna try again. It is a really cool place and I think you all would enjoy it. Tucson peeps, I sure you know what I'm talking about......

I was thinking that the Phoenix crowd can meet up at The Mills then the Yuma and Casa Grande peeps (oh yeah, and the Gila Bend crowd too) would meet someplace in Florence and then cruise down to meet up with the Tucson and Sierra Vista crew to have lunch or breakfast depending on how fast we get there. From lunch, we would roll into the museum as a group.

I need to have a roll call of who would be interested in doing to this so the museum can be prepared. They will do an open house for us on a day when they are closed if need be.....

WARNING: The last time we were there many, many, many years ago, it had a short dirt road and driveway. It's in the middle of town so it's not like a four wheel drive road. So just be forewarned.

The route will be as follows:

Meeting at The Mills at 8am and leaving around 9am.

We'll go south on I-10 then east on 202 (Santan)

South on 87 (Arizona Ave) to 287 to Florence.

South on 79 to 77 (Oracle Rd in Tucson)

Left on River Rd. then left on W. Stone Loop

To Zona 78

This is gonna' be fun!!!!!

I couldn't care less about a museum, or old cars for that matter, but I'm down to hang with the guys....

Yes, the GTO will be going. :burnout

Too far to take the LT-1 plus it's not that comfortable for a drive that far.....

Chris will wait for us outside to make sure no one messes with our cars...... :P

I didn't figure they would change the road. But like I said, it's not that bad and we ain't gonna' be spinning out on the street anyways.......... I think....... :o

I'll need a date and a few more responses before I set it up with them...... Plus we'll need to get some of you Tucson guys to figure out a good eatin' place with a decent parking lot.....

I'm in - September looks pretty full with events already, and 3rd weekend of October has Laughlin, maybe 1st or 2nd Sat or Sun of October?

Open Mid Oct. to Memorial Day.

Wed, Thu and Fri 10AM to 4PM . Other hours by appointment

When it's open according to the website. Looks as though it will have to be after the Laughlin run. i suppose we'd have to see about an appointment to see it on a Sat or Sun, unless those of us who do work take a day off. I was thinking the 25th or 26th of October.

I'll be bringing my GTO as well then.

If you mean too old to ride in a non-A/C car for 100 miles in the heat, well, yes, you are correct!

And you, my friend, are right in our demographic, so you can't talk too much... :rockon2:

Anyone that misses this trip but is going to Laughlin check out the Car Collection at the Riverside Casino.

That's on our "to do" list...... Can't wait!

And whats better is they always have a Vette for sale in the car line-up when you walk through the valet undercover area and usually several in the collection for sale too. Last year when we were there with ACE they had a '93 in the Valet area and a '57 in the collection for sale. Both were total ground up restos and at fairly reasonable prices.

Ok, everyone. I've got this on the calendar for November 9th! We need a place to meet in Tucson. Hey Rick, Don & Patty. sent you a PM. Sorry, it was for a post on the wrong thread but I could still use some ideas about where to meet.

This should be plenty of time to make plans for a huge turnout. I would love to see tons of Vettes rolling into Tucson..

The weather is perfect for cruisin' down to Tucson! We'll be meeting the Tucson gang at Zona78. Can I get one of you Tucson folks call them and let them know to expect us???????

I hope we can get a huge and I mean huge turn out for this.....

I'm down for meeting everyone for lunch, but I couldn't possibly be any less interested in old cars. Are we meeting at Zona for lunch, or just as a handy meet location?

Lunch and then the museum. Doesn't look like there is much interest in this though.......

I thought the cruise down would be fun but I haven't been getting in feedback about that either so who knows.....
