3,503 lbs of trouble

Hi Everyone - I know this is way short notice, but the Arizona DeLorean Club is holding it's annual "June Jaunt" (in July), and would like to invite any Corvette owners/enthusiasts who'd like to attend. An invitation has also been extended to AZPOCA (the AZ Pantera club), and the local Lotus club.

It's this Saturday, July 9th - 11:00AM at F1 Race Factory. Please see their Web site for directions.

http://www.f1racefactory.com/

Here are the details:

AZ-D June Jaunt 2005 (in July) ? Indoor Fun for Everyone, and a short

drive to the Scottsdale Pavilions Car Show.

Greetings Arizona DeLorean Club Members and Friends,

The next AZ-D event is right around the corner, June Jaunt 2005.

(Rescheduled to July 9, 2005 because of a bothersome statistics

course that consumed May and June)

June (joon)n. Abbr. Jun. The sixth month of the year in the Gregorian

calendar, containing thirty days. The month following May and

preceding July.

jaunt (jônt, jänt)n. A short trip or excursion, usually for pleasure;

an outing. intr.v. jaunt?ed, jaunt?ing, jaunts To make a short

journey.

!!! JUNE JAUNT 2005 DESTINATION: F1 Race Factory

(www.f1racefactory.com) !!!

Unlike many recent AZ-D events, June Jaunt 2005 includes activities

that are sure to be fun for everyone, even for those who have

partners who have little or no interest in DeLoreans. It will be

especially fun for members with children.

There are all forms of fun things to do at F1 Race Factory they even

have a bar (serving beer) and quiet areas for relaxing away from the

excitement.

One form of entertainment they have that I found particularly

interesting is Mini-Cars and Simulators. For those who may want a

less physically strenuous experience, outside there is a small oval

track with scale race cars armed with onboard cameras and capable of

a scale equivalent 200 mph. These cars are controlled by eight sit-

down consoles where you can safely participate in a NASCAR style race

without being jostled.

For the racing on their indoor go-kart tracks, our group rate

(requires a minimum of 10 participants) is $20 for the first race per

person, $18 for the second race, and $10 for the third race. A race

consists of 18 - 24 laps depending on which track is being used.

After we finish playing and having lunch at F1 Race Factory, we will

take a short drive through Papago Park along the Galvin Parkway, and

then make our way to the Scottsdale Pavilions Car Show

(www.pavilionscarshow.com) via the 101 or surface streets depending

on if the attendees want to take a detour to cool down at The Sugar

Bowl in Old Town Scottsdale

This will be an OUTSTANDING EVENT!!! Indoor air-conditioned fun, a

short spirited drive, cooling heals at a local vintage ice cream

parlor, followed by an informal gathering at a local car show.

Mark your calendars and get ready to have a good time. Whether you

are single, double, or have more kids than you can count using all of

your appendages, everyone is sure to have a great time. Even your

spouse or girlfriends that don't particularly care for or

understand "this car thing" are sure to have a great time. So rally

your family or a friend. Bring your spouse or romantic interest,

heck, bring them both, they can duke it out on an indoor air-

conditioned race track while you relax with a nice cold beverage at

the bar.

It will be great to see a lot of DeLoreans on this event. If you

have one, try to bring it, even if your kids have to come in a

separate car. Heat should not be an issue since the destinations are

close to each other and the drives are on city streets.

JUNE JAUNT 2005 DESTINATION: F1 Race Factory

*****Tentative Itinerary*****

1. July 9, 2005 (I know it's supposed to be in June, but

statistics was killin' me.) 11:00 am - Arrive for tons-o-fun at F1

Race Factory. I know it requires getting up before noon on a weekend

morning, but the June Jaunt is a once a year event and it is going to

be an absolute blast.

2. 2:00 pm ? 3:00 pm or when ever we are ready - Depart from F1

Race Factory and head EAST on Washington to Priest, North on Priest

to enjoy Galvin Parkway, EAST at McDowell to surface streets or the

101, then NORTH on 101 to the Scottsdale Pavilions Car Show (we may

consider a stop at the Sugar Bowl in Old Town Scottsdale for cool and

delicious treats). While at Papago Park, I would like to make a stop

near the zoo for photographs of the attendees and the cars (you DO

NOT have to be an owner-member to participate in the June Jaunt or to

be included in the picture takin').

3. 2:30 pm ? 3:30 pm - Cool down at The Sugar Bowl in Old Town

Scottsdale (http://phoenix.citysearch.com/review/1683752)

(optional). Parking may be an issue, but it is a cool place to get

ice cream or other yummy treats.

4. 3:00 pm ? 4:00 pm - Arrive at the Scottsdale Pavilions Car

Show for socializing and appreciating automotive design

(www.pavilionscarshow.com). This is an informal visit to the

Pavilions unless someone wants to make reservations for us.

5. 9:00 pm is when the Scottsdale Pavilions Car Show officially

ends, but you may want to or need to leave earlier for any number of

reasons. Bring sun screen, water, and some form of head covering.

* Please bring an FRS Radio for the caravan.

* Please bring a camera as the scenery will be enhanced with

several DeLoreans or other cars.

* We will also be taking pictures of you with your DeLorean for

the AZ-D web site.

* This is an excellent opportunity for members with children to

come. Bring your DeLorean and your family car. That way if the kids

and spouse want to go home after we are done at F1 Race Factory, you

and your DeLorean can still join in the caravan to the Scottsdale

Pavilions Car Show.

* The discounted group rates based on a minimum of 10 race

participants. The other games and activities are based on individual

participation except the Mini Cars. I expect the F1 Race Factory's

racing, games, and food to run between $30 - $40 per person (not

unlike June Jaunt 2003).

This event is to have a "bazillion" owners and enthusiasts, and a

significant others and family or guest meet for an afternoon of great

indoor recreation and fun.

Thank you,

Ben Ferguson

So there it is. If you're free, and it sounds like fun, be spontaneous and join us! And yes, we'd love you to drive your Vette to the event!

And here's an update that was posted:

Here is an update on the 2005 June Jaunt (07/09/2005)

1. Wear comfortable clothes and close-toe shoes.

2. Arrive at F1 Race Factory @ 11:00am.

3. There are two indoor tracks for the adult-sized go-karts that go

up to 45 mph (which is very fast when your butt is only a coupe

inches from the ground). A minimum of 10 committed participants is

required for group rates on the go-karts.

4. Go-kark group rates are $20 each the first and second race, and

$10 for each additional race.

5. The mini-cars (scale race cars with interior mounted cameras

operated remotely and simulating 200 scale mph via remote sit-down

module in air-conditioned environment), are provided by an outside

partner and are available for committed groups of 20 or more and

costs $10 per race with a one race minimum. I need a head count now

because they require a one week notice to reserve.

6. You must be at least 10 years-old and 4'-6" to drive the go-karts

for safety reasons.

7. You must be at least 4'-6" to drive the mini-cars because of

the "I can't reach the pedals" factor (sitting on the lap of a taller

person has been done before).

8. The typical go-kart race is 12 minutes long, but we will be

sharing the track with the puplic and only 10 go-karts are allowed on

the same track at the same time.

9. Since we will be racing, eating, and gaming, I expect the

excitement to die down after 2 - 2.5 hrs. after which we will discuss

going to the next attractions (the jaunt, the Sugar Bowel, and the

Pavilions).

This will be a great event.

Thank you,

Ben Ferguson

Sounds like a good reason for A.C.E. to make a plan to head back there soon.

guess i'll be missing this one - the notice wasn't as advanced as i usually like it - i figure at least 2 weeks gives us all a good chance to wrap things up, get our cars worked on - and what not - but the mini cars sound kinda fun - although i'd much rather be behind the wheel of the actual moving "vehicle" rather than indoors sitting in an imobile box!

even in 110+ degree weather - it would still be fun!
