7/29/06 Lunch in Jerome

GRANDDAD

Recommended Posts

Since we've never been to Jerome, we thought it would be fun to take a nice drive, eat lunch there and meet some new people. We are going on Saturday, July 29th. We picked out some restaurants, and some sites that might be fun to visit. Anyone interested in coming along? We will meet at the Costco at the 101 and Cave Creek Road at 9:30 a.m. and leave by 10:00 a.m. Let us know if you want to go. All cars welcome!

We will update in a few days!

Yep nice place to visit, and a great drive up there. It is really busy and not much room to park like the above post says. There are lots of ATV's running around, and the Sheriff is a celebrity. Have been there many times on ATV's but never in a car. The wife and I just might join you all. Well let you know later. :cool

Since we have never been to Jerome we didn't know there wasn't alot of parking. A few other cars that are going said there are places to park, so we posted this and wanted to meet some of you and thought it would be fun.

The drive up is definitely fun, but the parking thing would put me off. There's barely room to drive thru there in some places, much less park a whole gaggle of Vettes.

Is there somewhere around there that would be fun to drive too? We are open - just would like a drive and meet you guys.

Asked the boss if we could go with you all, and was told no. It is my granddaughters birthday party. I am sure you will love it up there. Have fun. Thanks for the invite. :cool

Unfortunately, Mark (Sidewinder) and I will just be getting back from Florida at that time so we have to take a raincheck, but we LOVE Jerome. You will too! Have fun and be safe.

It would definitely be fun, I would simply suggest driving through Jerome and making someplace down the other side of the mountain the destination for parking; Cottonwood for example.

I did eat at a really neat restaurant with some great views in Jerome once, but finding a place for just one car to park was slightly challenging. My concern for Jerome is it has a very "one-way" feel to it - the roads are very narrow and if you roll through without finding a place to park, turning around could be NOT fun.

Just my twocents.gif, of course.

Either way, we're probably in for the event! :D

Okay, so after talking to one of the drivers going with us, I understand that parking is a problem, but not impossible. It's park where ever you can. His words to me were "You DEFINITELY won't be parking together. If we had a big turn out it might be difficult. Probably ought to go, & if we need to we can go thru Jerome for lunch. Maybe McClain's 50's style diner in Cottonwood. If you read the posts they kind of think we're going up the back way Thru JEROME ( OH NO !!! ). We are taking the freeway, not going back way.

Hopefully that helps a little and we can do this! :smilelol

freeway????

half the fun of THAT drive is the back way through the mountains - perhaps you should change your route?

just for arguments sake.....last time we drive through there we wound up in sedona, i think looking for food - but since traffic was so bad and we didn't want to wait in line to turn around - we trekked up the flagstaff way finishing the canyon run - i don't remember if we ever even ate that day! :leaving

Parking would be on your own. Once you get into down, just make sure it's understood your all on your own to park. You could all walk and meet up at the town park (between the police station and Jerome brewery) once everybody has found a parking spot.

From there you have your choice of three decent restaurants. Could be a considerable waiting time if it's a fairly large group. You've got the haunted hamburger, Jerome brewery, and the English kitchen. All are spiting distance from the park in the center of town and are good places to eat.

If the group is less then 8 cars, I'd say it's doable; all parties would have to be patient though. Could be worth it, especially if you wanted to walk around a little and visit the shops. Once you?ve parked, you can walk pretty much through the whole town.

Option B, drive town to Cottonwood, drive up 89A, turn and drive through Cornville to I17. Nice road through there with little traffic and a couple of nice passing stretches. Take I-17 South to Exit 289 (I think) to Cliff Castle Casino. You?ve got Johnny Rockets inside and another sit down restaurant that is decent, should be plenty of parking. You also have a sonic in that area, but it might be to hot to eat outside.

If you?re all ambitious, you could take 260 up the hill, drive through Payson and back to PHX, or jump back on I-17 and cruise back. Word of caution, there is a DPS sub-station in Camp Verde, that section of I-17 is crawling with DPS.

We stopped and ate in Prescott at that buffet! eating.gif

I have to agree on the back roads being the fun of getting to Jerome, at least if you own a Corvette! twisted.gifshifter.gif

It is still on for Saturday morning. We are coming up with a route that hopefully will make everyone happy! The meeting place is Costco at the 101 and Cave Creek Road at 9:30 a.m. - leaving at 10:00 a.m. We will hand out a route then. :yesnod The ONLY thing stopping us is if it pours Saturday morning. Otherwise, we are looking forward to meeting some of you and having a great time.

Unfortunately, we won't be able to take part in this, as I've got a client who waited until the last minute and needs me to come do their quarterly payroll tax returns and such for them on Saturday. sigh.gif

Update:

According to our Arizona Guide BJ99, we will take I-17 to 69 into Prescott, catch 89 up to Jerome/Cottonwood for lunch. See you Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. at Costco. :D
