Well the half shafts took a crap at the track, so now it time to upgrade to stronger yokes and half shafts. I found a web site which looks to have stonger half shafts than stock but I'm very unfimliar with upgrading these componets on the vette. I have the service manual which shows the break down of parts but what is recommeded to upgrade since i'm in there? Thx Chad R

Does anyone here on the board have access to stock GM parts (possibly at discount) that I could order from? Thx Chad R

Well i have torn down the rear end and both half shafts are toast and spindles. Upgrades are going to be the dennys aluminum half shafts with 1350 series u joints greaseless. Also I found a company that makes C4 upgraded Hub and bearing and hardened spindles for about the same cost as the stock stuff. :banannadance: Now of course nothing is cheap for a vette but after these upgrades it should last for a while.

The company is called summers brothers racing they include C4 heavy duty axle kit complete kit includes: 2 hub bearings modified to take a 30 SPL shaft. 2 Spindles modified-removed the small stock stub shaft, the yoke will be bored out and brouacht to 31 spline. 2 300M stub shaft heat treated for strength and durability pressed into the yoke to create a heavy duty spindle. 1300 bucks.

If you buy just the stock setup on the net it close to 900 bucks just for the stock replacements.

I creating a step by step with pics of what I'm tearing down and how to replace these parts if anyone is interested. Later Chad :partyspin:

Actually its pretty fun tearing down the rear end its fairly simple, now the costs to replace suck balls, but otherwise entertaining. :partydance:

The Vette has been put back all togethere :banannadance: with no problems to report other than a delay in getting the new spindles and bearing but thats because they kept breaking there machine that broche's the spindles, because the metal was too hard. I took pics of everything and I be making a step by step guide of some sort for anyone else that has to do this.

Believe it or not the hardest damn part was those new spicer caps and screws, 25ft lbs my a$$ try 100+ no joke and thats after I heated them some with a torch and cracked a 5/16 6point craftsman socket head. The manufacturer puts this green thread locker on it and its tough stuff.

Thanks for the update Chad, I've been wondering how this project was going. Are you gonna take her out to the track again anytime soon?

Not sure since its wonderfully expensive to replace these parts but at some point I will maybe if it cools down some, otherwise current plans are to attend some of the meets. :partydance:

I know you dont know what type of thread locker is used till you get a fastener out.

But Red and Green thread locker require heat to aid in removal
