Radar Detector

Thinking about getting a radar detector. Been a long time since I have owned one. Not looking to spend a bunch of money. So what would be the one you would get? In AZ is it ok to have one working if you get stopped or not. By that I mean is it against the law? Where I come from it is against the law to use one.

Thanks.

I've never owned one but it is legal here in AZ.

every cop I have talked to (san Eddie) said that if they pull oversome one for speeding and they have a radar detector... there getting a ticket.

if it were me.

Id read a book called how to avoid speeding tickets

it has saved me thousands of dollars.

or spend the money and get a stealth unit.

I wasn't a big ticket writer...surprise! Most guys did write people that had detectors. Again, attitude counts!

Robert and Elizabeth

Mike,

We absolutely love our Valentine One. It cost $399 and was worth every penny! It has saved our butts at least a dozen times already. It has a unique feature in that it has arrows that point to where the radar is coming from. No other radar detector has that feature. It detects over hills, around corners, above you (over-passes), photo radar, instant on, jammers, you name it. Once you use one with arrows, you'll never go back. We have used other brands in the past, but the Valentine One outshines all of them by far. Two thumbs up for this one!! :thumbs:thumbs

As far as I know, the only states that do not allow radar detectors is Missouri, Washington DC and Virginia. But, there may be more.

Legal in AZ and another vote for Escort. If you get pegged on RADAR you usually can pull it off the glass before they can catch up

Jay and I have a Valentine One - we agree with Robert and Elizabeth. It really has some great features.

It used to be in my car when he had the 1994 - but for some reason it is in his car now!

Valentine One!! Saved me countless times, now my wife uses it since I am not driving back and forth everyday to Chino Valley and Tempe. And it has saved her several times.

I would guess it has paid for itself at least 20 times. And you can send it in for about $45 bucks to get it updated so you don't have to buy a new one.

Phill's Vette

I use a Cobra 12 Band XRS9930 and paid $170.00 - has saved my butt many times also! I really think that $400 is still very worth it, especially when you consider how muck a felony speeding ticket will cost you - a LOT more!! Plus, they can arrest you, tow your car and take your license - WHAT A MESS! My next one will be also be a Valentine :thumbs but the cheaper ones that cover the different bands will be better than nothing. My vette is a daily driver and costs are rather high to keep it a daily driver AND in good shap at the same time; spending money on F%#*)@" tickets hurts me :cuss

Check ebay, there are a lot available there.

Valentine One is the way to go. It has saved me numerous times and is handy even if you aren't goofing off, just to know if anyone is watching nearby. I have mine hardwired (easy) and mounted on the visor so it is difficult to see from outside. If I ever think I might have gotten nailed, I immediately take it off the visor and stash it before the Cop is close enough to me to see what I am doing. The windshield mounts are asking for trouble from both cops and thieves.

They also offer to upgrade your unit for $195 I think, so that when they come out with newer technology you can do a trade-in instead of throwing it in a drawer and buying a new one.

I have a piece of crap that I bought at Best Buy. It did a great job yesterday going off with many bells and whistles as the officer was shooting his radar gun at me. But it did not warned me in advance. I did not remove the detector from the windshield so maybe this is why I got the ticket without a chance for a warning. I'm sure that the sound from the bullets and headers also kind of conveyed a speeding attitude, not to mention my license plate reads YOU2SLO. Anyway, I heard great things about the valentine and I like the fact that there are mounting plates for either the visor or the rear view mirror. You can also hardwire the unit directly. I'll be purchasing one soon!

Well it looks like the Valentine seems to be the winner. I guess I will have to get me one of them.

Thanks for all the response. :thumbs

V1 plus a BCT8.

The scanner would alert me and then about 2-3 miles down the road there they are if they are in front. I actually use it a lot just to hear what mile marker they are at and their direction.

BearTrackerâ„¢ Warning System - Alerts you to activity on Highway Patrol link frequencies to let you know if there is activity within about 3 miles of your location.

Yes, it works.

NM is digital but for some reason it still picked them up over there too. :crazy

Saved my butt a lot in Texass. I hate that state and they hate me.

My V1 came today. Still waiting for my mirror mount and my 8" hard wire to plug into the mirror.

In the mean time I put her on the window and went for a ride. Man that thing lights up like a christmas tree. Still learning the different sounds it makes.

Ok so what do you Valentine Junkies :lol set you mode on?

  1. A for All Bogeys
  2. L Logic
  3. L Advanced Logic Mode
  4. Or something I have not read yet.
Eddie get that radar gun out.

  • 2 weeks later...

I keep leaving my radar detector on. I forget to shut it off. I have a mirror mount and hard wired into the mirror power.

This is on a C6, maybe I have it wired wrong? Or maybe you can't have it go off when you shut down the engine or come back on when you start it, running off the mirror.

I have it hooked to the orange wire and black wire on the mirror. There is a gray wire on the back of the mirror also.

Help me out here all might people. If I could only get a pipe wrench on this mirror I know I could fix it. :D

That circuit is not switched by the ignition so it is always hot.

I wouldn't leave the detector there when you're not driving (unless in the garage), you're just inviting someone to smash your (other) window and take it. Just get in the habit of stowing it when you park the car.

i have accidentally left it on overnight, the current draw is very low - haven't had a problem.
