roneva
Well great!!! I went out to go for a drive in the Vette and no transmission! Moving the lever, it doesn't go into any gear, just stays in neutral. Whats up with that?
Desertdawg
Does it feel like it’s moving the mechanism to the tranny? Or internally not engaging?
roneva
No feel at all. The gear shift just moves freely, no resistance at all. What type of link from the lever to the transmission should there be? Is it a cable?
SixAddict
The trans cable has plastic bushing at each end (great engineering gm), they dry and crumble with age and heat. You can look under driver side back at transmission and see if cable is still attached. You should be able to see if bushing is still there. Auto parts stores sell a Dorman bushing kit that will replace them. The one at the shifter if it broke is a PIA to get to and replace as console has to be removed along with part of shifter surround. The whole new cable is like 50 bucks on flea bay, but several hundred to replace….. You can look at the big forum Corvetteforum.com, literally thousands of threads on this issue.
