A Corvette Christmas Eve. . .

Recommended Posts

I got this poem from HOXXOH, with credit to Douglas Mariani, Anaheim Hills, California.  I did a bit of editing in the text (I’m a writer at heart, it’s a sickness. . .)

MERRY CHRISTMAS ACEholes!!!

CORVETTE CHRISTMAS EVE

‘Twas the night before Christmas, and in my garage

There wasn’t a trace of a Ford or a Dodge

The presents were wrapped, and the lights were all lit

So I figured I’d bond with my Corvette a bit

I’d popped the release and I’d lifted the hood,

When a deep voice behind me said “looks pretty good!”

As you can imagine, I turned mighty quick,

And there by my toolbox, stood good Ol’ Saint Nick!

He just stared at first, not sure what to say,

Then quipped “don’t suppose you’d trade that for my sleigh?”

“Forget it!” I said, then started to grin

“But if you’ve got some time we could go for a spin. . .”

His round little mouth, tied up like a bow,

Burst into a smile, as he said “then, let’s GO!”

So not to disturb all my neighbors in sleep

We pushed my ‘Vette quietly into the street

Hopping in quickly, turned the key with a touch,

Put it in gear and let out the clutch

It erupted to life, Santa flinched in surprise

But he liked it a lot from the glow in his eyes

With cold tires spinning and engine arumble

The RPMs peaked with nary a stumble

Santa’s grin widened, approaching his ears

With every shift up as I went through the gears

Then he yelled “can’t recall when I’ve felt so alive!”

I backed off the gas to say “you wanna drive?”

Ol’ Santa was stunned when I gave him the keys

As he walked past the headlights he shook at the knees!

Santa let out the clutch as the tires tore ground

The big block exploded with deep exhaust sound

Power shift into second, on up into third

I grabbed for a handle, at loss for a word

The tank reaching empty, we returned to his sleigh

He slowly climbed out of my old Stingray

He later exclaimed as he sailed out of sight

“Merry Christmas to all, it’s been a great night!”
