Buccaneer
Found this excellent vid on exhaust system design and the science behind it vs. believed myths. It is funny to hear some people that think a 3" exhaust is the answer to everything and bigger is always better, I guess they are wrong. Kind of like the difference between carbs and EFI. Education is power, jus sayin'.
HOXXOH
Nothing new there that hasn't been known at least 50 years. One thing (besides cats) that was not discussed was the temperatures at different points and how that affects velocity. There was also the assumption that mufflers were near the midpoint of the system. With rear mounted mufflers, the pipe size between the collector and muffler becomes a bigger part of the equation.Even the best system has one specific RPM where it works the best. Any individual part has the capability to reduce the total efficiency from the maximum and lower the specific RPM. The trick is to combine the correct parts to create a system that puts that specific RPM near the center of the power band that suits your desired needs. Some of this is why lots of LS3's with boltons aren't getting as much power and aren't running as quick. It's all about the speed of the air in and air out.
