72 Seat Recovering - any experts out there?

dss LT1

Recommended Posts

I have all of the material to re-cover the seats in my 72 LT1. I have:

Leather covers, new foam, new seat backs, install kit incl rods hog rings etc, new hardware, etc. Also have the hog ring pliers and rod pulling tool.

Has anyone out there done this before? Anyone willing to lend some expertise?

I am looking to do this sometime in July (will be out of town and tied up until after the 4th of July).

I'll probably take you up on your offer - I should be ready mid-July - I'll try to clear some space inside the house so we don't have to work in an inferno.

Pizza, Beer, whatever - the price is right.

I rember monkeying around with these seats to replace the OEM in my 71.

My advice...

.. Take it to a shop ,spend the $100 and be done with it.

It would be more like 3-400 to have both seats assembled professionally.

We'll take our time - can't drive the car much over the summer anyway - NO A/C.

I would love to see some pics of the finished project and maybe a little step by stepif possible. My 72 can use some new foam....I am getting the little particles flying all around while driving.

I had some time today in between watching the little guy, started on the passenger seat, have it all apart. I'll take step by step pix of the driver seat...

  • 3 weeks later...

The seats are complete. Thanks again for the offer of help - got 'em done solo.

Let me know what you think.

Also - I have detailed pix of the process - 4 .pdf files totaling 7.4 mb - if you want a copy send me an email.

Glad to see you took on the job yourself. They look like they were professionally done.

There is much more reward when you complete the task by yourself.

I'll offer my assistance as well. I have to do mine in the 82 also. So the experience will help. let us know the date. Do you need a heat gun? I have one.

A suggestion is to add extra foam in the lower back area for lumbar support. Ths was not usually done back in the early 70's. Just tape on some extra to the foam you have.

Hope this helps.
