Got this from Chevy High Performance, mostly for the flaming C5, but they gave Mark some coverage for that 7.89 pass:

NMCA & LSX Challenge Series - Turning Up The Heat In Georgia

The action was intense at Atlanta Dragway (Commerce, Georgia) as the event, nicknamed the Nitto Tire All-Star Nationals, featured the popular GM Performance Parts LSX Challenge Series as a bonus to the NMCA-Flowmaster show. Three days of action was capped off with record-setting performances and drama.

Chevy vehicles were in abundance for the Nitto Tire All-Star Nationals as NMCA classes start with 6-second Pro Street cars down to everyday drivers in True Street, including the popular Nostalgia Super Stock ranks with iron that should be priceless to any old-school hot rodder. The action was exciting as a few Pro Streeters flirted with the 5-second barrier and we witnessed explosive action from some competitors. Many moments had the crowd gasping and cheering. The worst moment was a horrific fire encountered by Tony Nesbitt in the Mickey Thompson Super Street 10.5 ranks. The crankshaft bolt flew off and severed a fuel line as he staged his ’00 Corvette during qualifying. Fire ensued when the gasoline ignited, and it was tense as everyone waited for Nesbitt to climb out of the car and the track crew to put out the fire. The starting line crew acted quickly, and Nesbitt escaped unscathed. The damage looked far worse than one would think, and the team stayed up all night to get it fixed for Sunday’s eliminations. Nesbitt’s day, unfortunately, ended early due to a loose oil line that dripped fluid prior to the burnout.

Also wanted to mention Mark Carlyle’s drag racing efforts with his C6 Z06 as he laid claim to the world record for an IRS-suspended Corvette. We are happy to report that he nailed down the first 7-second run with that suspension at Atlanta Dragway. Carlyle revamped his record-setting Vette over the winter with additional bars to his rollcage for safety and a new turbo setup that consists of a single TiAL 106mm billet turbocharger and a massive air-to-water intercooler. Carlyle topped the LSX Drag Radial field with a 7.89 at 180, making it the first Corvette to the 7s with an IRS suspension. Despite the 7-second moniker, the car still sees street action with the parachute hanging off the back and the Funny Car ’cage in the interior. :edward:

He's uppped the power with a new motor for this year.....2000+ RWHP :rockon2:

"Well,

So far we have tested up to about 1800RWHP, but we now have a new power plant in the car that we expect to be able to put down 2000 RWHP! We have been doing some testing with the new motor.

We now have the new ERL powerplant tuned and working well with the new intake, and Throttle body. We have been testing with the 30" tall drag radials as well.

Our first goal with the new setup is to be able to build about 7-8psi on the line so that we can launch with enough power to be able to stay consistantly in the 1.2x range.

Our second goal is to spin the motor way higher than we ever spun the old motor. The new setup is a Solid Roller setup and we expect to be able to spin the motor as high as 9000rpms!

Durring testing we were easily able to build 6 pounds of boost on multiple attempts and were also able to hold the shifts as high as 8500rmps (we didn't try to go higher)

We plan on doing some more testing next week and I will share updates as I have them.

Now for some picsPosted Image

Mark Carlyle’s Twin-Turbo C6 Corvette Sets IRS and LSX Records at the World Cup Finals

Mark Carlyle and his twin-turbo, atomic orange C6 Corvette just keep getting better and better.

Unfortunately, he doesn’t have a win to show for his outstanding performances.

In late October, Carlyle dropped below the 7 second mark with a record 6.99 time (at a record-setting 209 mph) in the semifinals of the LSX Drag Radial Class. But Carlyle ended up losing in the finals to Mark Brown.

Then last Thursday, Nov. 1, Carlyle – who had lost the record to Sal Patel and his Viper at 6.98 – regained the record in the first session of qualifying for the Radial vs. Modified category on Thursday in the World Cup Finals at Maryland International Raceway by running off a 6.91-second time at 221 mph – with a 1.20 60-foot and a 4.62 at 168 in the 1/8 mile.

Then in the second session of qualifying on Nov. 2, Carlyle did even better, roaring to a 6.829-second lap at 223.28mph, reclaiming the all-time IRS (independent rear suspension) record and lowering his own LSX world record.

Patel was there as well, but he couldn’t better Carlyle this time.

Unfortunately, Carlyle couldn’t turn his record into a win in the finals, where a breakage in the drive line slowed him to a losing 7.53 time after he had run a 6.89 in the first round and a couple of 6.87s

The record-setting performances came courtesy of a 440 cubic inch LS powerplant, which is based off of Dart’s Billet LS Block.
