2003 Z06 vs. 2010 coupe

I have been trying to find out which is the faster car in a quarter mile, a 2003 stock Z06 (405hp) or a 2010 stock coupe (430hp). I was thinking about trading in my Z06 and buying a base 2010 coupe but didn't want to be disappointed if it was a slower car. Some people claim the 2003 Z06 hp was under rated and actually is closer to 430hp. Does anyone out maybe from track experience would know which of the two cars is faster?

I assume they should run about the same. I would say go for it if you wanted a new Z06, but to blow all that money on a couple, I'd say pass. Take the money you'd drop on a down payment and do headers and a tune. Your car would for sure at that point outrun the new coupe, and it won't depreciate like a new car.

I don't know which is faster, I would think the 2010 is but that's because I own an 08 that has the same motor... I do know you better decide quick and get it done because you only have about 2 and a half months before the 8th annual Gila Bend BBQ! to show it off :lol

the 2010 does have launch control that will eat a C5z06 for lunch at the drag strip. the z06 has a LS6 engine 346ci 10.5:1 cr the C6 has a LS3 engine 376ci 10.7:1 CR There is no replacement for displacement. my 2 cts.

I wasn't planning on buying a new c6 Z06, I was going to buy a base C6 coupe with the 430 or 436. The 436 is more hp then the C5 Z06's 404hp.

I wonder what the quarter mile numbers are on a stock C5 Z06 405hp compare to the C6 base coupe 430 hp? I wonder what it would take to boost my C5 Z06 from 405hp to 500hp?

The right cam and heads package would get you some nice gains at a fraction of the cost of a new C6.

the age old debate .... big block vs hi rever ... I've seen it go both ways in action ... depends on the set up I'm sure ...

I have to agree with Chris however ... your Z0 is a much better long term investment then a basic C6 ... even if you drop some cash on mods to the Z0

IMHO

my 03 Z06 ran 11.90's in the 1/4 mile when bone stock and with a cold air intake and nic d tune we went from 342 rwhp to 378 rwhp. And i averaged 11.70's then! I would stick with the 03 over buying a base coupe! And Chad i would love to challenge your theory give me a bone stock c5 z06 and i will show you what my tailights look like in a 1/4 mile over a base c6 coupe!

Like Mike says, with the right driver or alot of practice that Z could hand a C6 its ass. And it is a Z.

LPM can help you mod that Z into warp speed if you want, but it won't take much to 'own' any stock C6. Hell my heap with just headers, converter, and tune stomped LS2 C6's (huh, Rich?) all day.

Personally the base C6 car is boring but is a good cruiser! If you want to save the cash do a few mods as follows: I would do heads, cam and intake and header package coupled with a new tune and you have a very nice mid 11 second car! Launch control on the cars to me does not help it hampers! I want to see a launch controlled base c6 cut a 1.78 60ft on street tires! Not gonna happen! And man it's a Z06 that alone to me is better than a coupe thats not a z06! I have driven a c6 coupe and it does not compare to a c5 z06!

There is a video online where they tested the lauch control and they pulled worse 60fts with it on LOL.

ok go look at Rangers times with stock 03 z06 11.90's on street tires. What tracks were those times run at? And i call BS on the 10.63 cartek run! My car ran a 10.52 and that cartek car is not making the 570rwhp or 600tq numbers my car is making. The z06 time is good because i ran an 11.1 with similar mods!

Hey, my boring C6 with automatic is good for mid 11's and still a good cruiser.

Most of the C5 Z06 cars with the heads, cam, intake, header, and tune only run mid 11's when they actually can get to the track instead of in the shop. :rolf

Which reminds me, when are you coming out to race again?? Haven't seen you there at all this year.

Cartek (10.63) and others with similar times are all NA LS3 cars. Your 11.1 run was on nitrous.

my 11.1 was not on nitrous because the bottle was off when we checked it in the pit and the back up run spinning was 11.4!

Not according to what you posted last Dec.

I was the guy in the other lane who only saw your taillights, but I have the timeslip.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well lesson one when running nitrous make sure bottle is full! I was able to get one run on the bottle but could only muster 875 psi on it even with the bottle heater. Running a 100 shot it ran 11.10 kinda dissapointed!

But the best number of the day was on motor only i ran an 11.46!

I've have had much experience running against the C6 Z51 packaged Corvettes on different tracks. The two cars are very close. The C6 has the advantage out of a slow corners onto a fast straight for about 40 feet, but the C6 Z06 does catch up. This is compared to a few very experienced and also NASA instructors like me, so the drivers abilities is about the same. The C5 Z06 is lighter and much better in the twisties. The C5 Z06 is more of a racers car than the C6.
