Aluminum wheel restoration?

Our '82 CE wheels are pristine except some chew marks on the lip of the rim from 'kissing a curb'.

Are there shops that specialize in restoring aluminum wheels?

Call Nu-Wheel they do an awesome job and are local. 1-800-NUWHEEL. They usually charge about $150.00/wheel. Joe.

I phoned both today and they both do repair work.

Another lead I got was Wheel Specialties in Tempe, but I haven't talked to them yet.

The 'rash' turns out to be more of an outright wound. However, I desribed it to both shops and they both said no problemo.

I'll post some pics so you all can see what the problem is.

Wheel Specialist have been around for a long time and the return good work. I thought they sent repairs out to Cali. but I can't remember, it's been a long time since I have dealt with them.... I know they do awesome redrilling if you ever want to change a bolt pattern on wheel....

Wheel Specialists dismounts the tires & sends out the wheels to Nu-Wheel to get repaired. Then they mount & bal. when they get the wheel back. Wheel Spec. can bore out the hub hole or redrill the lugholes in house, but they don't do the repairs in house. Probably better off cutting out the middle-man and calling Nu-wheel. Joe.

I used Southwest Polishing around 202 and Greenfield Rd. They did a great job on all four wheels and a good price. I don't think they do repairs. I saw your two wheels at the BBQ on Saturday. I think it was the front one that looked the worse. You may not be able to repair the damage and have to buy two new wheels. Then again, you may luck out and the repair work just fine. Good luck. :burnout

I carefully described the damage to Nu Whell and the guy said 'no problem'

There was a CE wheel on ebay for a while at $170+20 ship, but I figured why pay $190 for an unknown scroungy filthy wheel from the northeast, when for $150 I would have a perfectly repaired, straigtened and polished original wheel.

Hopefully I won't live to regret that decision.

Discount Tire says the tire damage is only cosmetic so we aren't in any hurry.

The eerie part is that when we first got the car last summer, I suggested that we might want to take off those collector wheels and store them nice and safe. But then that could be said about the whole car, really.

I've had too many cars that just took up garage space. I bought my wife her dream car to drive, and it's insured for that purpose, so bring on the curbs and potholes!

We would have gotten the wheels fixed already, but Nickolette is thinking about 16" Torque Thrust II's, so we're waiting to see what she decides.

That's awesome. If you decide to have them repaired, I'd love to see the work they do on the finishd product. Might be a company I need to remember for the future.

:cool

Did you ever get this work done?

I just bought the CCW Drag package used and have been working on them for a couple days.

They were supposed to have been used twice but look MUCH worse.

I found this thread and was curious

Thanks
