4th Annual Gila Bend BBQ Cruise

also i just reread the first post and it says we are looking for a place on the west side to meet up - perhaps we should do in-n-out like last time so i can get a couple T-shirts before we depart ;)

Worked well for us last year. As I recall though, getting out of that place was a PIA. Needed something on the other side of the road :)

:agree We had to go north to a light and then all of us didn't get out and the group got way ahead. Someone else and I were forced to play catch up (like I minded that). We didn't catch up until the group stopped just south of I10 on 85. It would just be easier if it was on the westside of the road already.

I like the idea of In-n-Out and shirts but just not for a group as large as we'll probably have. Maybe we could just send Chris over to buy the shirts? At work we have a saying "you bring up the idea you own it".

Also I believe the eastsiders are going to go down through Maricopa. Are the Westies coming east or are we all meeting in GB? I prefer one large group to the two group thing. Being a tweener it's always hard to decide which group to go with. :crazy

We're 'tweeners'? I'll need to go with the slow group-or get a map. I'm no speedy gonzalez here! ;)

good point - i'm OK with driving out east to meet the east siders and go through maricopa - after all - this is partly about the CRUISE - so i'd love to lengthen m ine!

my bad on the idea at in-n-out - i forgot about that cluster-fu** last time!

i guess i could run across the street IF we are meeting at the west side for shirts - unless i get them before hand.

Yes, the west side group will come over and meet up with the east side group at Krispy Kreme Arizona Mills.

We trade off each year, last year the east group drove to meet the west siders and then we went out through Buckeye. This year the west siders meet up with the east siders and we go through Maricopa.

I would suggest Lowes at Dysart and I-10 (across from In 'n' Out) as a meeting spot.

There are only 2 routes in to Gila Bend.

Well, 3, if you want to go all the way down to I-8, but that road sucks.

Hey Dwayne, no one has mentioned the "Donation Jar" or will it be a set amount per person? We definitely want to cover the food expense. Let us know. :drinkers Robert

Yes the donation jar will be out, If you want to contribute then go for it, but no one is forced to give...

Last year the jar pretty much covered my "out of pocket expenses".. If theres any left over this year, it will go toward's the web site, or anywhere else ACE needs it...

I'm going to be grilling home made burgers, and we will have a table full of fixin's, if anyone has special dietary needs, PM me.

Just curious do the east siders go through Maricopa to I-8 or turn west through Mobile before Maricopa?

I being el stupido :D went through Maricopa to I-8 to head to San Diego for years until somebody else mentioned the "other" shortcut.

The "other" shortcut of going through Mobile is highway 238, a road Dwayne and I see fairly often. In fact, I have covered it 4 times in the last 3 days on trips to and from Yuma.

Yes, we take 238, a.k.a "Dead Cow Road", from Maricopa to Gila Bend on this trip. It has some nice curves, lots of dips and is fairly smooth.

Until today I would say that it is also fairly free of police patrol. I haven't seen a police car on 238 in about 1 year. Most of them I see are on 347, Maricopa Road. However I ran across 2 DPS cars on 238, one in the morning while I was doing 63 in a 55 and then again tonight while doing 61 in a 55. They didn't stop me, but I wasn't driving in a red Corvette either.

Yeah, thats the same DPS officers that shake their finger at me when they catch me going 80 in the work truck... :huh

I have slowed down now that they are patrolling it more...

Lowes just north of I-10 on Dysart. Or you can meet up with the east side group at Krispy Kreme at Arizona Mills mall. See the very first post for times.

And no badges needed. This group has let fords attend before (never an escort though).

Dang, never saw the dips or deputy dawgs there ever. Guess I better watch the Escort more huh?

I suppose I'll be coming. My friend Daniel Fox from the DeLorean club is coming as well, and he will be driving his C4 if he can get the problems with his 700R4 sorted out.

Any Pantera's ?????

Dan, Your Pantera/Delorean club is welcome to attend, just as long as they don't out number the vettes...

Well, considering I had no way to gauge the level of interest from both the Pantera Club and the DeLorean Club, which could have been high, what would have happened if the majority of the members of each of those clubs wanted to come, and it was looking like the combined clubs might equal or worst case scenario, outnumber the A.C.E. members? I didn't want to deal with being in a position to either have to start selecting people to uninvite, or afterwards dealing with Vette owners who might be upset that it no longer appeared to be a "Corvette" event, so I figured it was better to just "not go there". As I said back in November, after giving it some thought it just didn't seem like a good idea.

I just invited three DeLorean owners who are also C4 owners. The same folks from AZ-D who participated in the A.C.E./Cross Fire Forum Cruise. So far only one, Daniel, has confirmed.
