TEXAZC6
Out oc curiosity, has anybody banged out a sub-12 run on stock tires? I think I got enough go fast for it but traction is gonna be a problem. Then, here's hoping that Vigilante gets the dog gone torque converter released for the A6 before too many more three weeks (answer I have heard from them since May) before I go nuts! Loud Pedal
OK, I guess I gotta pop the cherry on this baby sometime. Perfect weather, great crowd... I'm IN. I'm gonna have to work on my launch technique, but should be in the 12s. Anything else I need besides a helmet?

I'm gonna have to work on my launch technique, but should be in the 12s. Anything else I need besides a helmet?AWESOME!!!I'll reiterate what has been posted:"If you are taking your street car, and it is not a death trap, you will pass tech. Some obvious things you need: seatbelts, safe tires (no cord showing), all lug nuts, radiator coolant overflow catch canister (the factory one is fine), no blatant fluid leaks pouring out, etc! Your battery must be firmly attached to the body of the car (doesn't move when it is pushed on). Also, shorts and tank tops are not allowed. You MUST wear long pants and close-toed shoes while racing! This is about it for a street car."Hey TexazC6, I think Glenn runs his 10's on streets, but I'm not sure!So....the list as I have it so far:Dawg - ragtops ruleMOTV8 - desperately seeking pre-race mod fundageKens06 - Kermit or Smirf?TEXAZC6 - the Monterrey Red rocketSpeedratchet - the AmbassadorQuiktrip - still the reigning ACE drag champion!Bigfoot99 - once a slow C5, now...?84vette - fresh paint equals lower e.t.Malcolm - seeking revenge on GaryYuma Rich - long distance winnerGrayeagle - the ringer1EvilC5 - crankin' the boostR&E - needs a fast-healing hand to make itF22trainer - seeking to fulfill his ground-based need for speedP51tj - Sunnie already makes the rest of our cars look bad, will Tim's driving skills do the same?racingchester - in the Red one.Big Poppa - calling Dr. Clutch....C6speed - cherry busting lichenboy - in his hot rod C4 'vert!Eudlose - rockin' the B&B's in the Z!SWEET! Malcolm
Replying to two comments above - I ran my Z in March at the Z06 Winterfest up there on the Speedworld track. I decided to baby it off the line and never launched hard - just 2000 rpms and slow release. I had 4 runs in the 12.0-12.2 range, so with a hard launch, I know it's got an 11.6 or 11.7 in it easily. Not sure if I'll launch it much harder next month - - only if it takes that to beat Gary haha. Those runs were made on stock tires. There's a guy in the Northeast who has squeezed out a 10.85 out of a totally stock C6 Z06 with only drag radials on the rear. For a showroom stock car, that's flying! Perhaps that should be my next acquisition - DRs.

MOTV8
A couple of quick questions. I can find Speedworld, but what time should I be there and where do I enter and first go. MarcusEnter south gate off of Happy Valley, I believe the gates open at 9 am-ish, pass tech for a few minutes, park next to all the Corvettes! We usually will have a 'rally' point somewhere so we can arrive as a group....so keep an eye on this thread. I'll check with Joe at SECC though for any details....Everyone: you might also wanna bring some camp chairs, and last year Phil (I think) brought a popup awning for shade......just a thought. I also bring a mini air compressor, so I can air down the rears and pump them back up when done.
1EvilC5
That is correct, I will bring a 10' X 10' pop up shade. This helps keep the sun off for a while. If anyone else has one, bring to make a larger shade area.
Big Poppa
BTW Dewey, if that was you inviting yourself under my baby to help, it doesn't have to be pizza and beer. It can be damn near anything you want. I'm in Tucson, and I'm not sure where you are, but if we need to set a date, let me know.Big Poppa, do we need a Corvette Saturday to get that clutch in? Grayeagle
This oughta be a great day ;)Ima be there werkin Habu out a bit.On launchin .. with a manual it's all about findin what rpm you have to be at to let the clutch out without boggin the motor or smokin the back tires right off the rims.Ideally you want to launch at an rpm where the tires spin just enough to keep the motor up in the power band without redlining it....it takes a smooth cluth release (not a 'pop' or fast release of the clutch) with application of throttle.. all happens smoothly and fairly quickly. It takes practice.Similar with an auto .. you have to find the rpm you can stage at that allows best 60' times, without smokin the tires too much. With street tires, there is no need for a burnout.Burnouts are fun tho ;)Yer gonna want to go around the water pit on street tires, cause water is bad in treaded tires, it will mess your traction off the line up as it drips out of the tread, off the wheel wells, suspension, etc.As for 'the light' or tree .. get the car straight, get an idea where you have to be to light that pre-stage bulb *first small bulb on the tree*..just go slow up to the line till it lights.. then inch the car fwd till the second light comes on (staged). At this point the starter can setoff the tree anytime. Focus.Zero in on the last yellow light before the green bulb.As soon as you see it start to glow launch the car.The bulbs are half a second apart. It takes at least that long for you and your car to react. You want to be rollin when the green comes on, ..usin up the few inches of distance you can roll before settin off the timer for the run.The E.T you run doesn't begin to count until you roll out of the stage area.. so you can sit there with the green light on for as long as you want, ..it wont start the clock on your time until you launch the car. That's where the race is won or lost in brackets.I get a *huge* kick outta 'treein' somebody .. aka 'cuttin a lite on 'em' ....by havin the car up on the suspension, tires diggin in and rollin just as the green comes on.This is where 'reaction time' is measured .. time from when green light pops till you break the beam to start the ET counter.Ideal is 0.500 .. you break the beam to start the clocks just as the green pops.A good driver-car combo can turn in 0.510 or less every run. That's faster than you can blink yer eye.. 0.010 of a second.Last time out I cut a 0.499 with Habu, at Speedworld.Redlighted.By the smallest of hairs 0.001 of a second.-Frank

84vette
quick question about the battery. my battery is just sitting in there and can be moved around really easily, at the autocross this summer they were hesitant on passing me when i rolled into inspections because of it. how strict are they about that? its not like i will be running faster than 25s. Use a strap or a belt to tie it down and you should be good to go. Or better yet get the battery bolt down plate and you're all set.
