:partydance:  My trusty Navigator and I are competing in the Nevada Open Road Challenge (NORC) this year from May 17-23 (actual race is on the 21st). :driving:

This is the companion race to the Silver State Classic Challenge (SSCC) which is the "World's Fastest Road Race"

https://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/fastest-open-road-race  held in September every year.

Anyway, anyone interested in learning about or possibly competing in either competition, go here for details!  https://sscc.us/

Awesome Donna! Running that has been on my bucket list forever.

Are you adding any Aero to your car prior to running it?

Not this time, possibly in the future if I move up in Division.

This is my first time so must run as a rookie in the Touring Division.  Speed class only 105 this time (minimum speed 80/tech speed 124).

If I run again next year, I can move up in Division but that will require some $$$$ invested in the car.  The next Division up (Grand Touring) I would have to install stationary seats, shark bar, racing harness and arm restraints or window nets.  Also requires a full fire suit.

I'm just looking forward to driving 120 miles at 100 mph without any risk of a driving award from the local popo! :smilelol

That sounds really fun. Never heard of it myself. I'll have to look it up and find out what it's all about. Maybe I'll put mini-Grape in it. Good luck to ya too.

The silver state classic challenge is the world's fastest open road race, you can find it in the Guinness Book World records. Way above the class we're running in, but the world record holder averaged over 219 miles an hour for the course. There are some great in-car videos on youtube, including the Big Red Camaro running it at over 200 miles an hour. Check it out!

This adventure has begun.  Departed Phoenix for Las Vegas yesterday morning.  Had a pleasant cruise up, overnight at Southpoint Casino.

FYI to anyone interested, the northbound pavement surface on US93 between Wickenburg and I-40 is in pretty bad shape, to the point of affecting handling and vehicle stability in some corners. :twitch:

This morning, the first stop is Rookie Orientation and track time at Speed Vegas.

After that, we caravan to Ely, approximately 250 miles north. :driving:

Do I feel excitement in your words?  Definitely!!!  Go and have a wonderful time while safely far exceeding all posted speed limits.  You won't drive like a rookie - got confidence in you kiddo.  Go for it & keep us posted :ok:

Remember to turn on the video recorder

Gonna try.  Bought a GoPro hero8 black specifically for this event, but it has turned out to be a defective POS it overheats and shuts off. :cuss

So, unfortunately I will not be able to get video of the entire run, going to have to compromise to hopefully get the start and finish of both legs with the Narrows both directions.

Yesterday was a really long day, starting at Speed Vegas for "qualifying" and ending with finally hitting the pillow at 1:15 am this morning in Ely.

At Speed Vegas there was a basic orientation to NORC by the SSCC Rookie Coordinator, and our first gear check to ensure we have correct helmets and Nomex head socks.

Check in and selecting our vehicle was next, then classroom instruction by Speed Vegas staff, which was a brief orientation to the track, the cars, and basic racing technique.

They had a lot of cars to choose from...

I had 4 laps in a C8 with an instructor. WOT down the straight was surprisingly tame, I expected it to be faster.  "Qualifying" appeared to be a series of simple "don'ts".... don't run over the berms, don't spin out, don't disregard instructions.

After speed Vegas we caravaned the ~250 miles to Ely, part of which follows the entire Northbound course of the coming competition, with two orientation stops along the way. One in Alamo shortly before entering the Narrows (which is the most technical portion of the course) followed by a second stop after driving through the Narrows.

Ice cream social last night where a lot of valuable information and tips were absorbed from experienced racers present.

In Ely for the next 3 nights, staying at the Hotel Nevada (built in 1929) in the John Schneider Suite which is full of memorabilia from the old Dukes of Hazzard TV show. (Thanks HOXXOH)! :)

Busy day today, more later...
