I have a steak dinner that says GM will never do another Rat powered Vette. The Rat was 70's go fast in a straight line. You put a Rat in a modern Vette and the handling would suck. The C5/C6 are so well distributed as far as weight and you'd ruin that with a ton of weight up front. I don't think GM will be putting the Rat in anything but if they did it would be the Monte Carlo, Camaro or Impala before the Vette.

I see Ford GT type markups if the car ever comes out.

Who need rat motors when you have C5R and LS7 forged motors and forced induction??

They won't use a Rat when the Mouse motors of today are making the same power or more than the Rat motors of yester-year with much lighter weight. :thumbs

I *do* however wonder if GM will do a nice hi-tech Rat makeover as they did with the mouse.

I actually don't think it would be that big a hit, IMHO, with the peices/tires already available to beef up the suspension/traction. For a fact it would be better than my ol' 440 Duster :)

The GM guy did say 'most powerful' .. as a goal for the Vette.

It would seem intuitive to see just what they could do with more cubes to play with.

I dunno . . mebbe they're skeered.

I mean .. all that hp ..and customers unable to handle it . . an all.

(actually read that 'customers unable to handle it' bit from a Chrysler peice on the Hemi Challenger ..made me laugh a bit :)

Oh . by the way . . had a local guy all into my face about stuffin a 440 in a Duster .. er .. he was about a second slower in the quarter with more compression, more gear, more tire in the back, and more money ..same year Duster, even same color :)

And his wasn't street legal .. mine was.

Im 3 months short of my 1 year anniversary with my 1sy vette, and im still trying to get used to the power... I love it. I need more traction.... I cant imagine 1000HP.... would love to experience it though... Im still stock and thought I would stay that way but im getting antsy... Uhh oh.... I feel my wallet shrinking...... Oh wait im married I dont have money in my wallet... Darn it.... Will work on that problem....... :) Do they finance? That engine cost more than most cars.... Think I will start with a cold air intake... Ohh ohhh my Jack and Coke is getting low... Glad im not drivin.... BRB

The Corvette is a sports car, not a muscle car (even though it possesses muscle). That means agility over straight line sprints.

We have a mule C4 ZR1 body vert w/ a 572 at work. It's got enormous traction problems, and can ONLY go in a straight line...as straight as you can keep it. Don't expect rats in future Vettes.

Would anyone use 1k HP regularly? As stated above the Vette is a sports car. A sports car that can be drag raced. IMHO the Camaro is drag raced 100 times more than the Vette. If and I stress if GM ever uses the Rat motor again in a production vehicle I'd look for it in the new Camaro. Even then it would only be because Chrysler brings our a hemi Challenger and GM wants to respond with their own monster motor. This might be a whole nother argument but I view the Camaro as the competition for the Challenger, not the Vette.
