Longtubes exhaust clip

Just a clip of the car after I modified the mufflers on this MBRP axle back. They were too quiet so I rolled some steel sheet metal into circles and implanted (welded) it into the mufflers to try and effectively bypass the mufflers. The results are better than expected so if you have the same situation it's an option. I was thinking about about selling this axle back and losing $ and purchasing a borla atak but I am happy with the sound now.

Sounds good to me and this actually killed the marginal drone the axle back had prior.

Sounds very much like mine with the factory by pass, now that I have long tube headers, no cats.  So you must have done a great job!  Congrats!

Sounds great to me. Nice job and saved yourself some coin too.

Sounds good, but it's always difficult for a recording to accurately capture the sound. Do you have pics of modding the muffler, I'm interested to see what it looks like?

I could take a picture but I can explain. The mufflers are straight through mufflers but on the inside of each there is a waffle shaped like pattern of openings in the muffler so sound can be absorbed by the muffler sound deadening material. Let's say it's about a quarter inch this extrudes in each muffler (imagine a 3 inch straight pipe that is now about 2.75 inches).

Here is an example just to illustrate the the diameter being reduced inside a muffler. My mufflers are different design (here are what the mbrp mufflers look like on the outside).

As you can see there is a good amount of sound deadening material (whatever it is not sure) around the 3 inch main pathway (I would guess the outside of the mufflers diameter is 5 inches or so). So I just rolled steel sheet metal into a circle and put it inside the muffler to cover most of these openings allowing less sound to be deadened. It's not quite straight pipe loud which is good because there is very minimal drone and it sounds pretty nice. It also isn't too raspy as you would get with longtubes, no cats, and straight pipes. I'd guess it does restrict internal diameter though the middle section of the mufflers to about 2.65-2.7 inches.
