Just Not What I Had In Mind

This is a long story so read on.

My son-in-law and daughter want to get two new cars this afternoon after they took myself and Sue out for lunch with the grandkids. They wanted me to go along to help with the negotiations cause neither one are to good at that, they like to say yes way to early. Took me to Claimjumper for my birthday lunch, all went very well got some real now presents and had a great time. After we left Sue was suppose to go to there house to watch the kids while we all went to look and try to get them two cars.

This is where the day went down hill for me. We got to there house shut off my c6 and got out. My fob was still in the car and the car is not suppose to lock when it is in the car. For the ones that do not know the c6 are keyless entry and start. If you leave your fob in the car and get out the horn is suppose to honk three time and warn you that you left you fob where you should not have. Which did not happen, as I discoved that I left it in the car and went to open the door back up (now all this happen in about 20 seconds) the doors locked. Now I have no way to get in the vette. Now you do have a key that will get you in the hatchback and then you can get the doors open. BUT the key is right next to the fob in the car. I only got one fob when I got the vette, so could not use the second one to get in.

So called the dealer told them what happen and they said I have never heard of the happening, hold on for a minute. After about five hold on's they said they have no way of helping me. But gave me a number to call 1-800-chevusa. Of which I did, They need my vin number and told me that I was covered and they would sent out a company to unlock the car. I said great. Now I was sure all was going to be fine as soon as they get here to unlock the door. So I left the wife at the kids house and we left to go to the ford place where they want to get a Mustang GT and another car for my daughter.

Scot found a nice 2006 Mustang GT that he was drooling over, Melissa found a 2005 car to replace her 2003. So now we are talking money and trades, and the cell phone rings. It's the wife she is not very happy and pissed. This is not a good thing. The people that Chev sent out to unlock the vette was having some troubles getting into the car, as he was working on getting the door open he broke the drivers side window. Now it is in a million pieces and the only thing holding it together is the solar flim. But he did get my fob out. He calls is boss and tell him what happened,

After the boss got done givng his tech hell he told the wife to get it fixed and he would pay the bill just take it anywhere you want to. After we got off the I calm down a bit and did so more saying no to the saleman... So we finally left with the 06 GT and the 05. Got back to there house and there is my vette sitting there with no window in it. So we left the kids house and drove home before it got an colder as it was. I did find out that the heater works well.

I was looking forward to showing my Birthday C6 off at the party tonight to everyone. But this kinda just took us out of the mood. So now I have to wait until Tuesday to get her fixed up. The END.

Hope Everyone has a HAPPY NEWYEARS. :D

Ouch :(

C-5 passive entry switched on, if you lock the keys in, all ya gotta do is wait 20 seconds, shake the car and it will unlock. (from owners manual)

I don't know if its the same with C6 .. hate to try it and cost a window!

Interesting story Mike. I left the second fob in the Vette when we stopped at a KFC before leaving Yuma and the horn didn't honk. Luckily I had the first fob in my pocket. Definitely a scary situation.

Damn,

Not the way I would want to close out a year!!

I will never trust a battery powered GM FOB, EVER!!

I was locked out of my '96 with the key in the ignition and the FOB on the keyring!

That year had the proximity FOB that would unlock the doors as you approached the car.

When the batteries were low, you could walk around the car and listen to the doors lock and unlock!

Funny the first time but a PITA!

I was at Bill Heard and they brought my Z up and the 'kid' left the keys in the car, shut the door and click, the doors locked??

I saw their unlocking method was to pry the top rear of the drivers window back, then push a thin moldable rod thru the opening and hit the unlock button on the armrest or pull the manual lock, open!!

Sorry to hear your new baby has been violated!! :angry

Don't put too much faith in gimmick technology!

We are talking 10+ years to get this FOB thing down, and it still sucks!!

Maybe I read things too fast!! But there is a way for you to program the car to honk (beep) three times when the fob is left inside and it WILL NOT lock the doors on you.

Let me know if you can't figure out how to program it and I can walk you through on the DIC settings.

Also, where is the second FOB?? It didn't come with one?

I was not there watching, But a slip Jim will not work on a c6 the door opens by electric, nothing to put up on. They did it just like Ken said above.

Once again Mike, I feel for you buddy. That really sux. I hate it when they send a Volkswagen mechanic to work on my Lear Jet. I'd make sure he didn't do any paint damage. He had to pry against something...

Did you program the DIC to honk 3 times if you leave the FOB in the car?

Yes it is programed for that but did not work. Once it did when I was testing it. Some time it does not even see the FOB when I shut off the car. So I am getting to new ones soon.

Between getting old and some other problems that I have I don't get to upset any more. Life is just to dam short. Unless you got a park ranger around to tell ya you can't do that. :D

What do you think it will take to repair the paint? :toetap

Oh I got most of it out without trying real hard. I think I can get it all out as soon as I really work on it.

Where can I find the link to find the born on date stuff?

The normal person can't get access to it. There is a guy on CF by the name of GMautotech. Just PM him with your VIN and he'll provide you with all kinds of info. In addition to the born on date he can tell you if your's has had any work (warranty or not) at a GM dealer, where it was originally shipped and what the accessories were.
