What I did on Covid-19 Vacation

Recommended Posts

Vette R & D

I do not take Corvid-19 lightly so please do not be offended by the title,  I was just playing off the home schooling my grandkids are doing.

As some of you may know last month Debbie was not at Corvettes & Coffee nor was our Vette.   Debbie took the Vette up north by herself so she could have some alone time with the Vette, (She did wonder which I would miss more?).  She spent the weekend and returned without the Vette (I'm not missing her anymore, but the Vette is still not back now I miss it).  This was planned so that I could re-do the entire garage, Floor, Paint and Cabinets.  We were planning to go get the Vette this weekend but that is not happening.

Thought I would share a few pictures of what has gotten done and some of the steps that were done.  The cabinets are in the works but they are on the back burner at work as production for profit takes priority.

First a few before Pics.IMG_0929.thumb.JPG.8052995f8bf35105ca4181ef7cba50ea.JPGIMG_0930.thumb.JPG.760fba7d0ba84d446a4de5b1c5879e63.JPGIMG_0931.thumb.JPG.e6c7916cd5ec1e0fb9a7440635b8cc8d.JPG

The floor was ruined by yours truly over 10 years ago,  So time to finally fix -it

Step 1 was to remove all of the old epoxy floor coating,  This was done with a large diamond head grinder, hand grinder and shop vacuums.

IMG_0943.thumb.JPG.5d97272c6d7497b4b7e45ff6f0a8a969.JPGChalked any cracks in the expansion joints and used a clear sealer bonding agent on the new porous concrete.IMG_0944.thumb.JPG.4adbd684b087b51272ed5eac99b483f7.JPG Brushed a base color and applied vinyl color chip,  They were a non-stock blend and were ordered 1 week ahead. We are doing what is called a full broadcast (full coverage)IMG_0947.thumb.JPG.c22c4808e5f6e420a4f61e84751a56de.JPGBase coat of new Epoxy going on.

IMG_0957.thumb.JPG.64573c0332d3e5bf3f1f86a86c7fab7e.JPGLoose chips removed, Prepared for clear top coat

Finished floor 24 hours after top coat.   Time to get the painting going,  Normally I would have painted first and would suggest that to any one, but it was a timing issue.

Close-up of floor,   Pained some walls and moved some things back into the Garage.       HMMMMM now where is that Vette...…..    Sure hope she brings it back..

Looks darn good from here. I've always wanted to do that. If I was able to stay home from work I'd be doing something like that too. Good job.

Excellent, looks great.  Where did you get your epoxy products from?  Mine took months to “air out”.

Wow! That looks great. But, I need to ask: How did you ruin your epoxy floor 10 years ago?

In 2008 I went to work one day and the Cabinet business I worked for was closed,  So I hand picked three other employees and we started a cabinet business in my garage.  We had one job where the finish got on the floor and hence I never really got it all off.   I also want to say that I did not do the actual work of redoing the floor myself,  I had it done by The Garage Floor Company aka GFC.  I am doing all the painting and the cabinets.  All the electrical and subpanel I did back when I had a garage full of woodworking machines and I just did one for my Son-In-Law while I'm prepping the Cabinets   More pictures to follow when the Cabinets are going in.

Here is my COVID-19 project.

I have been remodeling my back yard since last October.  The last step was putting in drip irrigation and micro-sprinkler systems.  The controllers are on a wall that faces west, and are going to get hammered by the sun every afternoon.

My project was to make a decorative shade screen for the controllers.  Here are pics:

Controllers:

I had a little time to spare ( 😋 ) so I decided to spend it changing out the 4 workshop florescent fixtures with LEDs.

I also added 2 LED light fixtures down the center.

I bought the LEDs and additional fixtures from Costco last November.

Pros: Huge difference in brightness.

Cons: It makes the necessity of redoing the epoxy on the floor more obvious. 😝

I dug out a broken lemon tree to replace it with a lime. Mostly with a hand trowel and a small electric chainsaw. My watch said I ran 7 miles tha day sitting on my ass!!

Received and spread 13 tons of rock in my backyard, drank beer each day to celebrate i was alive as the project was underway. Cruised PCH in California between Cambria and Monterey with almost no cars on the road.
