ACEhole Challenge - Now versus Then

Chameleon

Recommended Posts

We have a new member, Dadillac Man.  If anyone is paying attention, his avatar is himself, "then" and "now."  That avatar is great!  :thumbs

This gave me the idea that it could be fun to see the rest of us, "now" and "then"  - so, consider this a challenge to all ACEholes

Post up those pics of yourself both now and back in the day, so we can see how much you have changed (or not)!

I'll be brave, and go first. . .:huh

1982. I'm on the right. My younger brother on the left. The guy in the center is a long time friend (Kenny), who has owned the same 64 Vette since 1980.

2018. I'm still the one on the right, just in case you weren't sure. 😁 Time has a way of stealing my hair.

So, a couple of stories here. The top shot was taken as me and Kenny (middle guy) were assembling the short block for my 1974 Javelin/AMX. We were all smiles, because we had not yet noticed that the pistons were coming up above the block deck by about .030. They were Venolia 12:1 pistons for a 390 engine, not a 401. The speed shop I ordered them from fucked up. That tool box on the right is still with me, and it's just become more crowded over the years. I need another tool box, or a larger one, to fit all my stuff.

The other story was Kenny's 64.

The car still looks the same, and it's sanitary inside and out. Back in 1982, this car was making about 500HP on a naturally aspirated small block (no stroker crank), and about 600HP with a nitrous shot. This car was about the fastest thing on the road (Massachusetts) back then. Kenny more or less followed some Smokey Yunick formula for a NASCAR engine, and it was a good formula. This thing could just spin at 7,000 RPM and not flinch. As a matter of fact, I remember seeing his tach go past the 7,000 mark, down to where it says "RPM X 100". The worst damage this car ever saw was a broken roller rocker or bent pushrod. I remember one day, Kenny killing a rocker arm. He pulled the valve cover and tossed in a new one that he carried with him, and we were back on the road in 20 minutes. Kenny would beat on the car all summer, then pull the engine in the winter, go through it, and give it the attention it needed. He still is an excellent motorhead.

Nice story and nice Boot Hill T shirt. Had one just like it but mine "shrunk"

It was an XL, but XL is tight on me right now. But I still toss one on here and there.
