How do I upload or identify and resize photos, pics, or images?

How do I identify the size of a photo?

The easiest way to determine the size of a photo is to save it to a computer and look at its properties.  On a Windows PC, and similarly with the process of saving photos on Apple computers, existing photo sizes already uploaded to ACE can be identified by right-clicking on the photo and selecting "save image as". Choose to save it to your desktop or some other location you can find the photo in later.  In your saved location, right-click on the image and select "Properties". In the "Details" tab will be a property called "Dimensions".  That's the size of your image (Width x Height).  You can now chose to crop / resize your photo as noted below.

How do I resize a photo so it is compliant with the signature image limits?

Signature images are the only uploads that need to be resized before uploading. These images are typically a landscape image where the widest part of the image is horizontal as opposed to portrait images where the widest part is vertical. We suggest a typical car photo be in landscape.

  • iOS (Apple mobile/tablet)
    • If there are parts of the surrounding image you don't want, crop down an existing photo in your Camera Roll to only the portion you want to see.
    • Resize the saved image with the free app, Image Resizer Free (in the App Store)
      • Select and add (+) a photo from your camera roll. It could be image that you saved after cropping from the instructions above.
      • Resize the image. Signature images must be no larger than 300px height, and 600px width. The Image Resizer Free app displays the width box first, followed by the height box. Setting the height box to 250 should adjust the typical width to 333 given a standard, unedited landscape photo with a 4:3 aspect ratio (what almost all cameras take). Once set, press the OK button (top right).
      • Press the Done button when finished.
      • Press the Save button (Down arrow) and "Save Image" to your camera roll.
      • You should now have a copy of the original photo, at the new size, in your photo camera roll.  Choose this new image when selecting the file to upload to your signature.
      • If the image you choose is too large when you save your ACE signature, it will warn you that it was unable to save your signature and tell you why.

  • Android mobile/tablet
    • Not exactly sure what capabilities are baked into Samsung, Nexus, LG, HTC, etc.
    • Google "crop / resize images on Android". I'm sure there's similar apps in the Google Play store.

  • Windows / Apple / Linux PC
    • Software like Paint, IrfanView, Gimp, Photoshop, and others have great tutorials that can be found by googling, "crop / resize image with IrfanView".
    • Online, web based sites like http://resizeimage.net/ can also get the job done.
