7th Re-Annual Father's Day Sedona Cruise & Picnic - Saturday, June 11

The Re-Annual Father's Day Sedona Cruse is BACK !!

It's been on hiatus for a few years, with the last one being in 2013 to Payson.
It is one of the twistiest and most scenic cruises and I demand it return to ACE!
In previous years, we've counted over 50 Vettes and 80+ people so it was truly one of the premier ACE events of the year.
Let's make it just as glorious as it once was!

This is the weekend before Father's Day so everyone can still celebrate the holiday with family.

There will be NO RESTAURANT destination for lunch.

You are required to bring your own sack lunch or food to grill for a picnic.

  • Two small charcoal grills are available to cook your own, but you will also be required to bring any items necessary to grill. E.g. Charcoal, fire, utensils, etc.
  • There's one medium sized ramada with 6 picnic tables, a nearby restroom, and a playground.
  • There is limited parking next to the ramada, but plenty of spaces, just a short distance, SE of the ramada and playground.

WHEN: Saturday, June 11th (Weekend before Father's Day)

Destination: Garrison Park, Cottonwood, AZ (Picnic spot)

Who: ACE members post up in this thread if you can make it, I'll update the 1st post with the list.

Logistics & Directions:

Multiple valley congregation points will form and all proceed to the McDonalds @ I-17 / Carefree Hwy for the launch point.

!! ROUTE & Phoenix Launch Point CHANGE !!

Due to the Yarnell/Peeples Valley Tenderfoot fire and the closure of 89, we'll miss out on the Prescott portion of the twisties.

This also allows us to leave a bit later in the morning to allow for a picnic lunch target closer to Noon.

North Phoenix New Launch Point: NEW Departure Time @ 9:15AM

McDonalds @ Carefree/I-17 (3140 W Carefree Hwy)

Instead of launching from Wickenburg, we'll be congregating at the McDonalds just East of I-17 on the Carefree Highway (3140 W Carefree Hwy)

Route:

I-17 North to 69

to Fain Rd, just East of Prescott Valley - This avoids the crappy traffic

to 89A / Pioneer Parkway to Pioneer Park - Which allows us to pickup additional ACE folk. Departure still the same @ 10:45

to 89A up Mingus Mountain, through Jerome, to Cottonwood's Garrison Park for the picnic.

The Sedona leg will be after lunch.

AlternateCruiseRoute.jpg

After lunch, it's "driver's choice" on the return trip.

  1. Finish the 89A route through Sedona and north though Oak Creek Canyon and Slide Rock State Park toward Flagstaff.
  2. Head South via HWY 179 from Sedona and return to the valley on I-17.
  3. Head South from Cottonwood on HWY 260 and return to the valley on I-17, or make a HUGE loop and carry on to Camp Verde and up the Mogollon Rim, returning on HWY 98 via Payson.
  4. If you didn't get enough the first time, go back the same way you came!

Meeting Points and Directions:
Some of these were take from previous trip meets, so if they need modified or additional spots added, please feel free to throw out some suggestions and I'll update this section.
