Velocity Yellow

I ordered a new stingray convertible (non Z06) on 2/18/15 & my order has been on hold at the factory due to unexplained VY paint issues. I've been told that possibly no more Stingrays will be made of the 2015 model in Velocity Yellow & for sure VL has been dropped for 2016. No replacement color has been decided for 2016. Do any ACE members know about this & maybe have additional info? Thanks

They used to paint all of the fastest Vette's yellow. Now black is the fastest......

They run into strange reasons for dropping a color. Shortly after I bought my cyber gry 09 I was told they wouldnt be doing cyber gry for a while. Apparently the factory where the flake was produced was in Japan and was heavily damaged by the sunammi.

I heard there was a lemon grove in Fla that suffered sever damage in a recent hurricane so they can't produce VY any more.

Maybe Mr. Parker can find out what's going on.

Eddie. How are the orange groves doing ???

I have been told by the factory that the sunammi is the reason. They tell me a factory that produced the pigment was destroyed. Another reason why many, many things should be made in the Good old USA.

I had no idea the paint was from japan. Being Italian, I'm leaning towards red with green stripes to look like the Italian flag. Then I could get a job as a pizza delivery man to help pay for the car.

So all of the VY C7's they made were from old paint? Or did I miss a Tsunami?

Regardless, that's a damn shame, as the C7 looks SUPER sexy in VY.

Glad you responded because I knew I was spelling Tsunami wrong, but it's Eddie44's fault. I was told by a factory rep. that they can't re-create the pigment made in Japan, which is why VY will not be available on the 2016's. Maybe I should wait & see what the 2016 Yellow looks like & maybe ordering then or change the color on my 2015 order.

Hmmm...makes you wonder how they will make the VY color for repairs and repaints to match whats already out there for years to come.

I knew it didn't look right but auto correct didn't detect. Guess what I'm saying is Apples fault not mine. :lol

VY was always scheduled to be phased out in 2015. Nothing that I could find in GM supply chain documents that point towards an issue in Japan, at least not recently, anyway.

Anyone else with access to GM supply chain documents through Covisint, take a look, but I don't see anything that points to Corvette paint being discontinued due to issues in Japan.

Depending on other order constraints, this may have delayed the TPW until after the time Velocity Yellow was no longer available, which sucks for a lot of folks with VY cars on order.

Yellow fans, do not despair, a new yellow is planned to be released next year.

Yellow & Black next to each other on a drag strip would look awesome. Let the best color win. Hint: Yellow.

I beg to differ...

They can't match it now in the aftermarket very easy. They have a formula to get the same shade, but it still doesn't look the same. Difference is in the tint coat. Factory has a base color coat, tint coat (clear with some color but base still shows through), and then final clear for 3 coat process. The aftermarket's color code is base and clear so although it's the same shade it just looks different. I personally think there is a tint of green in the tint coat on factory job to get the depth but that is just my speculation. Chevy dealer did repair on my 2009 and they could not get the 3 code match from GM, or so they said. Bugged me so much I went to carbon fiber top and halo on my 2009. The millennium yellow was better color to me. VY was too greenish. MY was the perfect yellow.

Since I had no choice I changed the color to Arctic White with Kalahari Top & Interior. That was my 2nd. choice anyway. We have to compromise sometimes.get the toys we want.
