ChadC
using the wrong coolant will not throw a check engine light. ..something else has caused that. by mixing coolant types (orange and green) it can cause a chemical reaction with the aluminum on out engines and eventually cause gunk build up. ..please some one correct me if im wrong. to fix is simple, just flush the system and engine block with plane Jane tap water. joe@cpr.com
Chad you're correct. That will not set a code only cause bad things to happen in the system in a chemical way. Get the code scanned and flush the system. Fill with distilled water and dex-cool.
Buccaneer
Saw this on Dex Cool. I didn't know this was a potential issue...Huh?! http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2006/08/gm_dexcool.html
PALADIN
That's a good artical Bucccaneer, DEXCOOL can look great but the chemicals deteriorate with time. You need to flush that cooling system every couple years. You can refill with DEXCOOL, but most of my mechanics prefer the green. Take care in flushing if you do it yourself. You have got to get ALL the air out of the system or you can damage the system very badly.
MidNiteFury01
Here is a great little thread on how to pull your own codes on the C5. http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/forums/c5-technical-and-performance/72535-pulling-codes-c5.html As far a flushing goes... drain - flush - refill. There are many threads & posts on doing such. I too recommend distilled water when refilling the system after the flush. Good luck... & when you find out what the code is, the link above includes a second link to tell you what it is. Then post up on ACe and there are probably a dozen or more folks that can tell you how to fix it.
