Car shopping

So I had an Audi TT sport 10 years ago. I loved it. Then the engine blew 6 months after the warranty expired. I've been leasing my daily drivers since. I had the Audi repaired and sold it.

Now my third lease is expiring. I don't want another Infiniti. They NEVER change their body styles!

So what do I do? Fall in love with a 2012 Audi TT Turbo prestige Quattro. So beautiful! So fast, so sleek! Can't find that color and options anywhere in a 500 mile radius.

I figured Audi should have the kinks out by now so I went to test drive it today.

The car drives like a porsche! It was perfect! So I laid into it hard to make SURE there are no kinks nowadays. And.......I'm pretty sure the engine BLEW right there.

I barely got it back to the dealership. I had to stay in first gear with the car bumping like a tractor the whole time and trying to stall.

Poor sales guy....the second it happened I said Oh Shit. He responded with "are you ready to buy?" ARE YOU KIDDING ME.

Back to the drawing board.

every time I was up for a newer-vette

the BMW z4 and the audi TT and audi TT/RS were very close contenders.

the audi (like Subaru) has great resale value, BUT the used inventory is a real bitch to find in Phoenix. there is just not that many around.

I do suggest taking the BMW z4 for a test drive. while not exactly alike, they are quite similar.

stay with the BMW z4 2009 or later.

Have you tried Certified Benz and Beemer in Scottsdale? They do not have what you are looking for in stock but do have some nice R8's in stock. Maybe they could find what you are looking for.

Friend has a TT for past 5 years, no issues. Audis seem to be hit or miss.

Agreed on the R8. Just don't wuss out and get the v8. V10 or nothing.

Why not just get an R8?

GET OUT OF MY POCKETBOOK!!! Yipes! Way too expensive for me but what a beauty. Sweet car!!

They have issues around 60,000 miles.

You know a Corvette can be a daily driver... And the cool factor goes way up too.....

C6 prices have dropped far enough that even Sean can afford one now. :bolt:

So you're going to laugh......I need back seats. Yes, my kids will laugh at that statement too because they're the ones who used to have to sit in that back seat. Head bump into the back glass moreso than my Infinitis.

They hated me. But understood beauty before comfort.

The Z4 seems smaller I think. The TT looks "bulkier" which is a look I like. Youre so right, it's small.

Have you driven one lately? They sound better and drive better than ever. The dealership I went to (Onyx) is known to do mods to their cars before they sell (they have lambroghinis, mercedes, etc on their floors). I'm wondering if they did a mod to it and that's why it busted. I'm going to test drive one somewhere else just to see if it has the same feel. I just can't find that color anywhere.

Why don't I want a vette as a daily driver - we understand the value of a vette, clients don't. They assume I'm rich when I'm in my $15,000 chrome or when it was white vette. I've gotten comments "wow you must make a fortune off of me". When their car is double or triple mine in value.

So my daily driver needs to be more low keyed even if the value is low. Insurance policies have tiny tiny commissions and it takes years of working hard to make a living. Mortgage brokers think they'll do insurance on the side and get rich until they find out a policy may make them $13. Then laugh and say no thanks. They all think I get thousands like they do lol. It's the passion of helping people by doing what I do that makes me fulfilled. So having a nice car at a decent price is what I'm after without the flash. Getting judged for the wrong reasons sucks.

I also need back seats.

I would vote 3 series Beemer, convertible

Although I would never put the top down, the 3 series convertible is the only one Id get. The convertible gives the car a very nice lining to the car. It changes the look. Yes, I like them but I don't know why I can't pull the plug and get one. I've looked at a few.

I don't like the line of the dash. It's straight across and almost looks like it bows outward a little in the middle. It kind of bugs me. And I hate the look of wood trim.

I tried 3 years ago to buy one but just couldn't bring myself to because of the dash. Does that sound weird?

You need a Pontiac Aztek. Your clients will buy extra policies they don't need out of pity.

If you go the 3 series stay with the 335. My Son had one that I drove and it's almost ( stress almost ) as fun as the Vette to drive.

I test drove one 3 years ago. Omg so fun. Then I got to the price. He insisted on making me drive the top of the line 335 even though I had told him that's not the one I wanted to afford. Driving the top of the line isn't smart because it kills the real drive in the stepped down version. He was very pushy.

Then said $5000 down, $1000 month. I broke out into a skin rash all over and walked out. Seriously I did!

What about a CPO Audi? Friends TT has 130k miles, no issues. But it is bone stock besides wheels.

I think if you find a well taken care of stock one, you won't have issues.

Yeah, this dealership was small and I know with small dealerships, they tend to want to duct tape the cars on their lots to sell. CPO is a great idea with a large dealer but I want this DAMNED color and there are none anywhere!! I'll also get an extended warranty just to breathe easier.

I dont know your budget,

but if you look at the BMW 335i and IS

the IS is the Same engine but (via computer) has 20+hp and is a 2 door 2+2 seater.

the normal 335i can be a 4door.

here is a loaded 335is for $37K

and a 335i 4 door for $34K

You could have just said no ....:lol

If I had to buy something fun that wasn't a vette, I'd probably go BMW or Jaguar ...

It's really a thing Dawg!! You wouldn't believe it. I changed out my carpet last year at the office because it was so old and clients acted like I was spending their money. It was the building owners money. I have been there 17 years and the lease renewed at a higher price so I asked for new floors. Sheesh.

I keep my office humble and clean just to make people feel confortable.

Chad that's hot! I'll keep those in mind but I'm really trying to stay less than $30,000. I just have a feeling I'm going to have to settle. I even had to push it to $30,000 just to get a decent few years old car.

Cars are such a horrible investment but they sure are fun!!

Used Jags are pretty damn nice IMO. Probably doesn't work well for the image.

I get what you are saying with the vette. I use to drive mine to old job and got crap all the time about I must be overpaid/etc. I would park next to an escalade and loaded diesel truck that cost 2x what my car cost, but those people would give me crap about having a vette. Hell, a new accord, or loaded sedan is as much or more than most vettes.

Isn't it ridiculous? I've heard "nice that you're living your dream!"

I'm thinking huh, my $15,000 vette, no time to myself, two kids to support through college, no help from their dad who disappeared, caring for three dogs who keep getting medical conditions, bad knees....alright! That's living my dream then. HAHAHAHA

I sure do appreciate every part of my life and the love around me, in that way I'm sure living my Dream.

And....Marc pushing me to get a vette just so I can know you guys. That's been a big plus in my life.
