ChadC
you guys know that im in the technology world. This story is plausible, and bothersome. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/car-hacked-on-60-minutes/ what they DONT tell you is the steering is controlled by a human. the brakes are mechanical, with electronic(computer/hydraulic assist). they can activate, but how can they 'by-pass' a human pressing on the pedal? there is more to this than the CBS sensationalist story. Desertdawg
damn internet of things, I knew they were going to cause a problem....
cr133r
If they were to modify the ABS controller, they could render the brakes nearly unusable. Throttle is drive by wire on most (if not all) newer cars. Steering could be affected significantly on the electronic power assist units in newer cars. Eddie44
I think it's basically sensationalistic journalism. If there's a concern it's probably theft. Not very likely that your neighbor or co-worker that's pissed is going to have the computer skills to accomplish this. Most of the real hackers are after your identity or your bank info, not screwing up your brakes.
Desertdawg
My only question would be, if hacked, do they leave behind a finger print??? If not then wait until you hear the story I have to tell. I saw the wipers go, the horn honked, the radio changed channels.. then the brakes didn't work just before I hit that other car.....
Desertdawg
how can they 'by-pass' a human pressing on the pedal? anti lock brakes, they just trigger the wheel lockup sensors, the anti locks kick in and no brakes... anti locks are also a big problem while off roading, try rawling off a slippery hill slowly....wheels slip, anti locks kick in and away you go with no stopping power. ChadC
I think it's basically sensationalist journalism. Eddie, I think you are totally correct. there are a lot of details left out of the CBS report that can make this Car Hack Improbable and this is a 'spookey' report. However just like Apple and the iCloud hack, and Sony Production data breech, Car manufacturers cannot take 'Automotive Electronic Security' for granted. by ignoring the security holes, is leaving them open for some stupid teenager affecting a car of a famous person and getting them killed. Imagine the world if Paris Hilton was Killed ..no uh bad example how about Kanye West ..no uh... Chris Brown Justin Bieber Al Sharpton Jesse jackson Bill O;Reilly ..well shit.. nevermind.
