EddieVetter
Hello AZ Vette Enthusiasts. New to the forum. Just got a 2007 C6 Z06. Going to start going beck to Pro Auotsports events. There is an event at AMP on the weekend of Feb7-8th and I know the track has a 94DB level max. Has anyone been successfull with running a C6 Z06 with stock exhaust at AMP at full throttle ?? I am sure I can get it to pass if I sand bag a bit as I go past meter but to be honest I want to be full throttle without worring. Any help would be great. Also curious about whether the butterfly can be mechanically kept closed and if this will keep it quiet and not cause any harm... Cheers.
ChadC
I know you can keep it closed and it will not hurt anything. I suspect you will have to bypass the vacuum thingie magigger. located under the car on the passenger side near the battery.
Chameleon
I ran at AMP with Z06 exhaust on my C6. I kept the mild to wild switch closed and passed at WOT with no problem.
Unreal
It really restricts power though. ~40-50hp difference from 3500rpm up leaving them closed.
Chameleon
It really restricts power though. ~40-50hp difference from 3500rpm up leaving them closed. I guess that's the choice ya gotta make - run with less HP or don't run at all. . .
SLAMMER
Back when Victor used to attend events we went to and AMP sound check. I believe his exhaust were stock on his ZO6. He wired/clipped the baffles closed. Everything seemed to be fine up to the point the clip/bolt what ever he used came off! Then officials BLACK FLAGED him and he was done for the day. So YES to stock exhaust but you gotta come up with a more permanent method of keeping those flaps closed. Mine work off a vaccume line and you should be able to disconnect that line and plug it. That may work. SLAMMER
Unreal
You could disconnect it and plug it like Slammer said. Another option would be a dashlogic. It has control over the valves and has a mode where it is closed all the time. If you wanted I could let you borrow one just to close the exhaust. Ted Y
It really restricts power though. ~40-50hp difference from 3500rpm up leaving them closed. I'm curious about this estimate of power loss. On the LS3, the NPP option is worth 6 (six) crankshaft horsepower. You're saying a stock LS7 loses 40-50 by an inoperative NPP?
Unreal
Stock cars without NPP don't have mufflers forcing all the air through one small tube when not opened. On the dyno, when NPP opens you can see a huge jump in power at 3500rpm. When I first saw that I was like WTF is happening at 3500rpm because it jumps up so quick. When I had intake/headers car dynode 490rwhp. So we opened the valves, nice smooth graph, no jump. Then plugged the valves and car made 450rwhp. This is similar to what I saw. So figure that same basic curve without the jump around 3500 when the flaps open
cr133r
I haven't checked into it yet, but you can hot wire past the controller to keep the vacuum solenoid open which would keep the valve closed. I don't think I'd pass even with them closed with the high compression and cam in the car.
EddieVetter
Would be soo much easier if pulling the fuse put the system into "valves closed" rather than "valves open" mode. But to be honest for every other track I am going to be happy the fuse pulling technique words as it does, as I will want to run "valves open" all day. The issue, as others have said, with pulling and plugging the vaccum lines is that the vaccum is used to keep the valves closed, so once the lines have been pulled/plugges one is left with how to force the valves closed mechanically. In looking for a moment at the actutor arm and lever assembly it seems possible, but as Slammer pointed out, the method I employ may not make it through the day - and I am guessing that if you violate the DB level even once, your done for the day. I was thinking about just getting a plug and play mild-wild switch, but in reading more I thougt I saw that they all allow you to only plave the car in "stock" mode - where the butter fly works as normal with respect to 3500rmp/load, OR butterflies kept open mode. Unreal you are saying your "dashlogic" device somehow also has a mode with is Always closed? - EVEN for over 3500 rpm Full throttle use? That would be perfect for me. I would be honored to try it out. Anyone have more info on whether any of the Mild to Wild key fob devices have an "always closed" setting, rather than just a stock setting??? SLAMMER
Yes, Chamaeleon/Donna had that on her old C6 she could manually open it until you change the setting to be closed. Same thing with closed when you change it to close it stays closed until you change a setting to open. My Billy boat Fusions work the same way. EddieVetter
Well that seems like the best and easiest fix of them all. I see the Billy Boat name a lot. Must be a good product. Anyone have anything to add to the "which mild to wild is easiest to use on a 2007 Z06 with Nav and heads up and homelink...." Thanks Slammer!!! BTW is anyone going to be running at AMP this weekend?? Id really like to start to meet some of the Vette culture in AZ. I think I may own one of these monsters for a while. HOXXOH
Stock cars without NPP don't have mufflers forcing all the air through one small tube when not opened. Uh, yeah they do. There is only one pipe that exits on base mufflers. Then it splits to appear as two. Of course, they still don't force air through when not opened. Unreal
Yes the dashlogic has a quiet all the time mode. Not sure if mild to wild does. The one I used had open all the time, or stock. Come borrow the dashlogic for the weekend. It is just sitting in my garage in a drawer so as long as you return it I don't care.
EddieVetter
That is very very kind of you. I am in Tucson, and will be headed up on Sat Morning. I am not sure what part of AZ you are in, but if it could work out, I would be happy, to come by and borrow it...and return it of course. Are you interested in selling it? If you would feel better discussing this offline that is fine too.
Unreal
In Gilbert. Not interested in selling it nor can I legally.
EddieVetter
Would it be ok to come by early on Saturday morning? There is a sound test I need to participate in at 9am... I'm guessing the round trip from I-10 to Gilbert (your choice of location of course) and back to I-10 would be around 30 minutes. Is that about right? Unreal
Sounds about right. Any time after 6:30 or so is fine. The dashlogic I have is prototype #2, and I signed all sorts of NDAs, contracts, etc to be on the development team so can't sell it but your more than welcome to test drive it, use it for the weekend, enjoy all the fun stuff it does, and return it. Everyone that borrows it lands up buying one anyways.
EddieVetter
Are you expert in its use enough to give me a 5 minute tutorial with reguard to closing the exhaust butterflies? I consider myself a fast learner :-) I read a bit on the device last night, and it does sound like its capable of an incredible number of monitoring and adjustment services..... you are probably right in that I will want one after a sample of its use.... As a scientist I dig data and modeling.
Unreal
If it takes 5 minutes, then something is seriously wrong. You use the mirror adjustment switch. Right mirror adjust is quiet all the time, let mirror is open all the time, center is normal. So plug it into the obd2 port, then move the mirror adjuster rocker to right mirror. Done. EddieVetter
Wow that is brilliant. Where would you like me to meet you? I would like to meet at 7am (ish). Private message me your choice of location. Cheers, Ed

Ill be there with my C5 Z06 - I may run a session or two ... not really sure yet. One thing about the DB test - Im one of the officials that works the sound test. There are two db readers at the track. One for the city and one for the track. It's a very BIG deal (major Fines from the city) if you don't pass and we require all cars to be at full throttle on the initial pass. There are officials in place to ensure everyone complies. If you car tries to pass sound check without being at full throttle - we will give you one more opportunity to make a test run. If you're not at full throttle on the second pass - you are done for the day. (subject to Managing Directors discretion) I know Donna and Stacey (C6 Z06) both passed sounds checks with their current setups. I believe Stacey had her exhaust valves programmed shut. Desertdawg
I have teh M2W and in quiet mode the butterflies still open at 3500 rpm just like stock, there is no forcing them closed all the time mode...
EddieVetter
I talked to "Ed" who is one of the developers of the M2W and he confirmed that their design toggels between Butterlies open, and the stock configuration .... thanks for confirming too "Desertdawg". And Drewster67 look forward to seeing you out there. As this is the first time out with this car, and having only had it since Saturday, I have not had any time to develop the handling and braking - so mismatched set of front and rear tires (Nittos and Goodyears), and an unknown set of brake pads will have to do. I have no doubt I will have fun, but I am going to be spending some $$$ over the next couple weeks to get the car a little better sorted for the next event... Last cars I ran with Nasa and ProAuto .....
