Shifty
On my olde blue beater truck, I've recently removed the factory molding, which was falling apart, and fairly dilapidated, so I fishing string'ed it off, and used the 3/M 07498 eraser wheel to removed the factory mounting tape from 1987. It left a "film", what looks like a clear packing tape, that the eraser wheel wouldn't pull off. I tried the 3/M adhesive remover without success. I don't care to hurt the paint anymore than it already is, so.... here's a before and after. Not great pics for seeing what I'm referring to, but at least you can see the area I'm talking about. I bought a pack of plastic razor blades today, and I'm thinking that between them, a heat gun on low, and more of the adhesive remover, I may get it done, but I'd like to hear suggestions from the pros! Guest badbobs95
The best product on the market is urethane reducer. Sold at Scottsdale paint or Space Age in Mesa. Wonderful stuff.
Shifty
Urethane reducer won't harm the olde paint will it?

Shifty
That truck looks very nice to be a beater. Let's just say that it's a flattering pic... It does have very low mileage (83k), but it was a farm truck, so the sun has done what it does, and every single panel has dents. It's fine by me though, the price was very right. Desertdawg
My guess without seeing it in person... What your seeing is actually the original paint, everything else is old faded and worn. The molding protected that strip all these years and now it looks good compared to the exposed paint.... Just wait another 25 years, you'll never see where the molding was ... I had a 76 full time 4x4, but mine was grey... Fun truck to play in...

Guest badbobs95
Urethane reducer won't harm the olde paint will it? No it will not. But it will remove paint even a few weeks old though.
Shifty
What if Dawg is correct, and it's shiny paint (which it doesn't really look like), can I color sand to attempt to blend it?
Desertdawg
Show us a better picture, I would try one of those green pot scrubber pads first, if its glue it will cut thru it, you can even use it with the adhesive remover. If it's shiny paint it will dull it without leave major scarring...
Shifty
I do have an extra-fine (grey) 3/M Scotch-Brite... I'll get close-up pics this weekend.
F22trainer
There's a product at art stores called Bestine, which is also known as Hexane or Heptane - it is designed to remove adhesive from delicate substrates such as paper or plastics. It works well on just about any adhesive residue. Use with paper towels or soft cloth and VIOLA! all gone.

Also any chemical supply with have those two products. The stuff is magic - we used it to remove tape or mounting adhesive from posters and our print screens. Won't damage the ink or paper and it evaporates real fast.
