Car wash Damage

Hello fellow ace members, I would like your opion and thoughts on this matter. My chevy cruzes's bumpers where damaged at a local car wash business while going through their car wash. I spoke to the manager and he documented the damages. He then gave me a copy of the paper work along with a body shop business card. He said that, the card was for the body shop they use when they have accidents at the business. I went to three local body shops and had them give me estimates for the cost of the repairs (over $1,000 in repairs) . I never went to the business that they recommened I go to.

I stopped by the car wash business today to drop of the estimates. The manager asks me for the estimate from the body shop they recommened. He stated that they need an estimate from their recommened body shop in order to compare estimates. I told them I was not taking my car to the shop they recommended. I told him I was getting my car repaired at a shop of choice. He said I would have to talk to the general manager about the repair cost. I guess they were'nt happy with the total cost of the repair bill. Do I really need to take my car to the body shop they recommended me ? Any thoughts or suggetions ?

I would check with my insurance agent and maybe get them involved on getting the car wash to make things right.

I would take it to their shop for an estimate. At least that would give you an opportunity to ask if their estimate is considerably less. I think they'd be a little embarrassed if theirs was half. You pull out the other three and say why?? Nothing says you have to use them but you may have a fight on your hands.

I figure that the estimate from the their body shop will be a lot less than the estimates I took them. I do believe they will fight me on the repair cost.

Just because you take it to their shop for an estimate doesn't mean they have to fix it. At least then you are armed with the info. If they take you to court you can say their estimate was XXX amount less than three others and therefore you felt it would be substandard. As it is now they can contend you never even gave their shop a chance.

Did you check the BBB for the shop they recommend?

That could tell you if it's a scam.

Arizona law states that you can take your vehichle to the shop of your choosing for the repair work.

That being said, it is easier to work with them instead of going to court. If all they want is a estimate from their shop to ensure you aren't excessive high, that is completely fine and normal.

I'll be taking my car to the shop they recommended. I'll see how much there estimate is, and go from there. I just don't want this to drag on to long.

I too would honor their "request" to get a quote from their preferred shop. Perhaps they get a "volume" :skull: discount, or they know they do good work? If you don't like the shop, their work or their BBB rating you can counter with a different suggestion. I doubt if they are putting in a claim to their insurance, so you need to at least follow their "rules" until you have a valid objection. Maybe you had whiplash when your head jerked to see what crashed at the car wash? :)

True story. Once upon a time, I had a guy back up into me while I was stopped behind him.

I went and got an estimate or two. His insurance said no and told me to go to a different place. Glad they did, they quoted several hundred more. So I got my car fixed and some new toys to boot. :yesnod

Took the my car to the body shop they wanted me to go to. Estimate was about $70 less than the three I took them. The manager said they will probably give me the least amount of the four estimates they had. He said if I take it to the body shop I preferred I'd have to pay the difference.

Probably not worth arguing over $70, but you can if you want. Maybe ask them to split the difference.
