They should be better off this race, since they didn't do so well last time (handicap BoP).

GT Open back to Budapest for the fourth round of the season

2nd July 2014

Montermini-Schirò (Villorba Ferrari) to defend fresh points leadership from the Corvettes in the overall standings

Ferrari bids to keep the advantage in GTS

The International GT Open 2014 is reaching the mid-season mark, as it heads eastwards for the fourth round of the year. Next stop will be in Hungary, at the Hungaroring, the F.1 track in the outskirts of Budapest. Following a first visit in 2012, this is the second time that the GT Open will be at the Hungaroring, a most appreciated venue which offers the additional attractions of one of the most beautiful European capitals and the Danube region. Summer can be quite hot in Central Europe but besides from the expected warm weather, the heat is coming mostly from the championship situation!

The Jerez round brought, in both classes, a strong reaction by opposition to the forces having dominated the first two rounds: the Ferraris took victories (with SMP Racing and Villorba Corse) over the Corvettes in the overall results, but saw their winning trend interrupted in GTS, where Audi and Nissan took top honors.

As a consequence, the championship battles are more open than ever and gaps have closed in the provisional standings. In the overall rankings, Andrea Montermini-Niccolò Schirò, the Villorba Corse pair, are now leading, with 13 points over Miguel Ramos-Nicky Pastorelli (V8 Racing Corvette) and 15 over Roman Mavlanov-Daniel Zampieri, with their SMP Racing Ferrari.

In GTS, it is still a Ferrari trio on top, but young Giorgio Roda (AF Corse) has now only a 5-point lead on José Manuel Pérez-Aicart-Vyacheslav Maleev (SMP Racing), with Claudio Sdanewitsch (AF Corse) only 1 point aback. Former double GT Open champion Joel Camathias and team mate Matteo Beretta (21 points) are now leading the opposition to the Prancing Horse, on the Autorlando Porsche.

There are few but interesting novelties in the field. Easy Race is joining the GT Open for the occasion. The Italian team, which had raced in the series back in 2009, is bringing a Ferrari F458 GT3 for two well-known Italian GT specialists, Fabio Mancini and Andrea Dromedari.

V8 Racing, on another hand, will have a slightly modified driver line-up in its GT3 Corvette: with Dylan Derdaele taken by other commitments, Dennis Retera will be joined by Daniel Keilwitz. The German, one of top GT drivers internationally and the current reigning champion of the ADAC GT Masters, is a well-known Corvette specialist and will make his debut in the GT Open.

Ombra Racing, finally, is facing an exceptional situation this weekend: the Italian squad will bring a single car, as Mario Cordoni, taken by professional duties, cannot attend this event, therefore car #62 will stay at home. The other regular machine of the Italian squad, #63, suffered a heavy crash in the first laps of Race 2 at Jerez. It has been completely rebuilt and repaired but Stefano Costantini, who was at the wheel when the accident occurred, is still suffering from back pains and still forced to stay at rest. He will be replaced only for this race by Álvaro Barba. The former GT Open Champion knows well the team, for which he raced last year, and will form an all-Spanish duo with Alan Sicart.

Hungarian fans will, of course, enjoy also the action of the Euroformula Open and both GT Sport series will be again joined this weekend by the spectacular Radical European Masters. Fans at home can follow all the Hungaroring action thanks to the pan-European live coverage by Motors TV, with major national broadcasters also offering races live in key markets such as Italy (Raisport2), United Kingdom (BT Sport) , Spain (Teledeporte and Canal + Deportes), Portugal (Teledeporte), Turkey (Sport TV) and Central Europe (Digisport), among others.

I wonder what kind of difficulty it was to come up with a new trans (not Chad's kind) and get it installed in time for Hungary?

I dunno. I have read that when you buy a C6.R, you're also buying direct support from Pratt & Miller. I was also wondering about teh 7.0 motor. Did they source it from Katech?

"A mixed 1st day at Hungary, w/ a heavy crash for @V8Racingbv. Spare GT1 C6R chassis in route in time for tomorrow" :Jake:

Teh V8Racing guys had sent a C6.R that they own up to teh Fesival of Speed at Goodwood this past weekend. I wonder if that is teh chassis they sent for, and how it could get from England to Hungary that fast???

And that WAS teh C6.R GT1 that was at Goodwood! Their runs "up teh hill" at Goodwood were fan favorites for teh thundering V8. Sooo awesome to see teh old girl racing! :Jake:

Seat and Maserati series join at Silverstone

For the fifth round of 2014, which will mark the start of the second-half of the season, the International GT Open and the Euroformula Open are crossing the Channel to visit Silverstone, the legendary home of the British Grand Prix, on 18-20 July. For the occasion, the GT Sport championships will be joined by two top mono-brand series, the SEAT Leon Eurocup and the Maserati Trofeo MC International Series.

Just so you know, teh Tutumlu has gone all political....he is part Kurdish and he hopes to bring recognition to teh Kurds quest for their own country, etc... Blah, blah, blah.

Well, it gets better. I think this may affect teh points battle.

Maxime Soulet.....is out. Don't know why, since he drove like I do through Phoenix traffic.

Little Archie Hamilton will be playing musical vette chairs, and will leave V8Racing to pair up with teh Tutumlu at SRT. I have no idea who will partner with Nicky Pastorelli in teh V8Racing vette.

Archie Hamilton Heads To Home Race In SRT Corvette

Archie Hamilton (23, Basingstoke) will race at Silverstone, his home event in the International GT Open Championship this weekend. He has joined the Selleslagh Racing Team by Barzani for the remainder of the 2014 season. Archie will partner Isaac Tutumlu. racing the SRT yellow Corvette GT2.

Archie Hamilton:
"I had some great races with the V8 Racing team and I want to thank them for everything. We had more than our fair share of bad luck and could have had much better results without some minor issues. I was given the opportunity to race with Isaac and SRT and have moved across with Nicky understanding my decision. It was important to me to drive with the best possible chance of good results but remaining on good terms with V8 Racing was a big priority. We now have eight races to go and I’m looking forward to trying my best to get back on the podium at Silverstone. I’m really looking forward to driving with Isaac, who I’ve raced against for a few years and get on well with, and being in a 2012 specification car.”

Archie races at Silverstone on 19th and 20th July

LMAO @ "Driving Miss Daisy"

Same news, but different:

Isaac Tutumlu With New Teammate At Silverstone

The Spanish driver of Kurdish ancestry takes part in another International GT Open meeting, the last one before the summer break, next weekend and Tutumlu will have a new teammate. Archie Hamilton will replace Maxime Soulet to team up with Tutumlu in the Selleslagh Racing Team by Barzani Chevrolet Corvette C6/ZR1.

Isaac Tutumlu and Barzani Racing Team head to Silverstone this time for the fifth round of the International GT Open, taking place at the famous British track. Tutumlu has achieved three podiums from six races driving the Chevrolet Corvette C6/ZR1 fielded by Selleslagh Racing Team by Barzani, and his goals are similar in Great Britain. It is worth mentioning on British soil his teammate will be English, as Archie Hamilton replaces Maxime Soulet. Hamilton, grandson of a former Le Mans winner in the fifties, is a young driver but with much experience in the Int´l GT Open series, because he has competed in the championship for the last few years.

“We arrive in England for another race meeting, the fifth, to be held at Silverstone and with a few novelties. They include my new teammate, Archie, a young driver with a brilliant future ahead and who even has participated in the 24 hours of Le Mans recently. I know him for a year and we get along. He knows Silverstone perfectly, because he lives practically next-door to Silverstone. With regard to Chevrolet, he has already driven the GT1 car, so to get used to the GT2 cars will be much easier”, Tutumlu comments. He also points out “Silverstone should be a better track than Hungaroring for the Chevrolet. Nevertheless, I hope it doesn´t rain. There are a number of changes in the BoP for Silverstone, and Ferraris in GTS class will be less competitive but those in Super GT they will be as quick as always. I hope that we can achieve good results this weekend in order to improve my 7th place in the standings before going on holiday”.

Track activity starts with test sessions on Thursday, with two free practice sessions on Friday to set-up the car. On Saturday both qualifying sessions take place at 9.00 (GMT) and 11.20 (GMT) respectively and later, at 3PM, will start weekend´s first race. The weekend concludes with race two at 12.30 on Sunday.
