Dry Ice Blasting

So far I only can find mention of dry ice blasting and no one has done it on the forum anyway. I am going to do the bottom of my car before I do the heat shield from lizard skin. I scrapped and scrapped the bottom and spent about 15 to 20 man hours and it still is filthy. The accumulation of 40 plus years of grease and oil. It protected my frame and such (no rust and I didn't snap off any bolts) but way too much work. They are going to blast it next Tuesday. I will lift the body on my four post outside and let them have at it. I am piggybacking on another job so I am getting a better price. I will take pictures and let everyone know how it turns out. It's only going to be 110 degrees and clear so should be a good time.

It must be my computers settings but I'm not able to see the pic you posted. I've never heard of this dry ice type of blasting, what can you tell me about it? Mike T.

Azmotorhead

Heard about this 15 years ago or so, A co-worker even invested in it in the stock market.

It looked like it was something that was going to take off in stripping technology.

Never amounted to anything.

Gotta wonder is it really cost effective over soda blasting?

I had the car dry ice blasted yesterday. A couple of things, it does grease and grime real well but not paint. It didn't hurt the glass or the metal reinforcements under the car. The pieces with the green zinc chromate look brand new. I have before pictures but haven't taken after yet. As soon as I get a chance I will post the pictures. If you want to strip paint, this is not the way to do it.

Here are some before pictures, after pictures and pictures with the lizard skin installed. It was easy to use and sprayed on very easy. I did the underbody, along the firewall, and in the rear wheel wells.
