1981Vette Oil Temp Sending Unit

Anyone familiar with the procedure for changing one of these. Mounts right above oil filter. Any type of sealer required? Does oil have to be drained first? I don't see this covered in the shop manual.

I'm just guessing here, but I would say, No you don't have to drain the oil, Yes use some thread sealing tape to seal it when you screw it in...

actually you shouldn't need thread sealing tape. If anything use liquid teflon sealer. Tape on sending units can cause a bad ground and cause inaccurate readings.

On second thought, go with what Bryan posted, yeah the sealing tape would be a bad idea...

Found it. Should be a piece of cake if oil does not need to be drained. I looked up one of the senders on a parts site and it seems to already have some sealant on the threads when new.
