Ertl Mopar 1/18 Don Carlton "Mopar Missile" 1973 Duster Manufacturer: Ertl Mopar Champions/Highway 61 Scale Or Size: 1/18 Production Run: 2,004 Condition: Mint In Box Features Include: This awesome collectible of one of the most famous Pro Stockers ever was produced exclusively for Mopar Performance Parts, and was distributed by Merchandising Incentives Corporation. It was limited to only 2,004 pieces. The story behind the real car follows: In 1973, Chrysler Corporation again returned to the winner's circle in Pro Stock action, when this Hemi powered "Mopar Missle" Plymouth Cuda won the Springnationals with a final 9.40 @ 147.75 mph run, defeating Butch Leal, who was also piloting a Hemi-motivated Duster. The Mopar Missle ran bests of 9.35 ET and topped 148 mph, and finished second at the Winternationals. The Mighty Mopar Missile. At the time, it was considered by many to be the most sophisticated car in drag racing. Designed by Chrysler engineers as a "factory exercise" in research and development, it set new standards in both performance and innovations, such as on-board computers and a crank-triggered ignition system. Among other innovations was the "smaller-engine,less-weight"(399 cu.in.)philosophy made possible by extensive use of exotic metals; namely titanium. Such was the fame of the Mopar Missile and someone once remarked, "The earth would rotate a quarter-mile every time driver Don Carlton would drop the hammer". Later that same season, it ran consistently in the 11.60's at 120 mph. Chrysler engineer Tom Hoover personally built the car's powerful 440 wedge engine. Mancini drove it to the world record and second place overall in national points in 1968 - only to be edged out by another Dodge at the last race of the season. The car was sponsored by the Greater Detroit Dodge Dealers, who knew they had a winner right from the get go. According to Mancini, "This car was unbeatable on a dry track and proved it all year!". Mancini himself set numerous records in his driving career with Mopar from 1967-1975. This particular collectible was produced by Die-Cast Promotions (DCP) / Highway 61 EXCLUSIVELY for Mopar Performance Parts, using Highway 61's exceptionally detailed and beautifully accurate Dodge Dart tooling. They limited production to a mere 2500 pieces, ensuring that the value of this collectible will continue to climb as time goes on. If you are a Mopar or classic drag racing collector, this is one of those cars that you must have as part of your treasured collection. This item is SOLD OUT at the manufacturer and will be very hard to get at any price in the near future. 1968 Dodge Dart 440 GTS Diecast Body Opening Hood Opening Doors Steerable Wheels Engine Hoses & Belts Engine Wiring Manual Transmission Detailed Gauges Adjustable Seatbacks Cloth Seatbelts Rollcage Detailed Engine, Chassis, Interior Tampo Printed Graphics Photoetched Details
