Heading North to Phoenix, AZ? Why Walk?

I still can't believe this one.

A 100+ mile ride from Ajo, AZ (43 miles from the US-Mexican border) to Desert Sky Mall in Phoenix for only $8 American?

In the article they tout how they haul 14,000 passengers a year on this route.

According to the 2000 US Census figures Ajo's population was ONLY 5004. And yes, I do realize that it does make other stops for pick up and drop off.

I wonder what the percentage of "north bound" vs "south bound" fares is.

I pay 28.00 each way from Prescott to Sky Harbor on the shuttle.

That's a bargain.

Try $37.00 each way to go 31 miles from Surprise to Sky Harbor Airport on the SuperShuttle.

And "people" from Ajo can go 100+ miles north to "the promise land" for $8.00 on a public bus system that is subsidized with tax $$$'s?

Well boys and girls, I wonder who's subsidizing THIS modern day "underground railroad".

We need Jack to reply, but I don't really think there's 5000 people in Ajo.
