I have the 9500i and am happy with it. Doesn't work vs. POP on radar though. Ask me how I know.

IMHO, Valentine 1 (V1). From what I've seen sure, it may be a bit over sensitive to city conditions, and there is a mode that lessens that responsiveness, but for the wide open spaces I don't think you can beat the Valentine, again IMHO. I had a LEO spotted some 4 miles away coming down from Kingman to Wickieup one time using the V1. When you look into the unit and the many features that are user programable it's simplicity belies its versatility. One thing to remember too, in all honesty, sure, it does have LIDAR detection, but nearly 100% of the time it's all over so quick (LIDAR obtains a target's speed in 3/10 of a second) it's really only telling you you've been caught and get ready to pull over. One thing that it does have over the Passport is the optional concealed display (I had mine customized with different colored diodes for different signals and signal strength). The one big benefit to the concealed display is that you won't have the crotch rockets and other tailgaters hugging your heiny because you've got the radar detector. Another thing I found was that in reading different accounts of outlaw open road races ie Cannonball, Once Around American, etc nearly 100% of the time they talk about their trusty Valentine radar detector. The only legitimate place you can buy a V1 is directly from Valentine themselves. So cavat emptor with the other purveyors of them. And for you Z's out there wanting to mount your RD on the passenger side without it being on the visor, I've made a mount that is working pretty well that attaches to the OnStar box and is easily removable as well. The way it's partially obscured from the side by the rear view mirror makes it just a little less conspicuous from the driver's side window when "officer friendly" is peering in. Now, what I'm doing research on is a LIDAR jammer. That's where the fun really begins. Developement has gotten to the point where they now have just developed sensors/emitters that are the size of a pencil eraser...talk about stealth install...I can't wait until they appear on the market.

I'm real happy with the results I get from my escort passport sr7 radar/laser detector, it's a stealth version so all I have in the cabin is a small 1/2 inch tall 3 inch wide display mounted above the rear view mirror, you can't see it unless I point it out to you! So far it has alerted with enough time to react, and it's picked up Smokey hiding over 2 miles ahead on K band with instant on!

Bigfoot...is that the 9500ix or is the 9500i an older model that the X replaced?

Yes, the 9500ix is the newer model. You can acutally download gps updated databases marking all the stationary cameras around the country instead of marking them all yourself. I don't know of any other upgrades.

yeah I noticed that. I dont care much about the speed cameras since those will be void in weeks and all the red light cams in the area I know all to well. Been flashed 100s of times with those ;) for work of coarse. This Valentine 1 AZ gold is talking about looks like a nice unit for the reviews im finding on it...and at the same price as the 9500ix

Nope! it's that small.

Nice.

IMHO one of the better, non merchant , radar detector review sites I've found, and no guys, I'm not a "radar detector review site authority", is:

http://www.guysoflidar.com/

They have nothing to sell and seem. IMHO, to be pretty impartial in their reporting.

Yep.

http://www.guysoflidar.com/march-2007/sabotage.html

second paragraph...

The night before the test, GOL's jimbonzzz and RacerX were out scouting the area of the test course to identify some different areas for testing radar detectors in different scenarios. There was NO radar interference in the area, as RacerX's Escort SR-7 remained silent.

Check fleabay too. I got my 9500i for about $300 with the blue display (which costs more for some reason  ). New they were going for about $500. You can connect them via computer and update, so updated software is not an issue.

These sound great in all but for the money, how many times do you feel they save your toosh. It sounds like anywhere in the city limits there is too much interfearence. What do you LEO's and knowledgable guys think about that?

Orange car, buy it direct, same package for $399.00 plus shipping and not worry about warantee or updating issues.

https://store.valentine1.com/store/

Supposedly there have been those reports that when you call to order, and they have returned units, they sell them for $50 less, full warantee.

It's your bread.

I know mine has saved me more than once, so it has certainly paid for itself aleady. One save will prettty much do that. It's not a sure thing especially with POP radar guns and no one in front of you to catch the reflection. X-band I think is only your door openers etc. Although on the way back from Cali going down I-10 (open desert) I was getting x-band CONSTANTLY and maxed out signal for a LONG time, but not sure why. K-band I think the sherrif still runs. Ka-band is run by most city and DPS officers. Laser (LIDAR) is few and far between at the moment I think. I generally ignore x-band alerts but sure as hell check down when I get any of the others. Don't think I've run into much K band interference anywhere, so in most cases it's most likely a cop.

Dawg, as soon as I can get some free time, I will gather up some different radars/lidars and bring them over to Gila Bend and we can check out your reaction time and how well the detector works. Maybe we could make it a lunch cruise for anybody else that wants to go.

I could do a Gila trip for something like that.
