I'm no mechanic, but I was told that if you disconnect the battery and reattach it, then only the "hard" codes would remain. This was how I was told to clear a CE light that was only the gas cap not sealing to it's liking. After doing this the light went away.

DTC P0442 EVAP Control System Small Leak Detected

Perform a physical inspection of the EVAP system. Inspect for the following conditions:

- A loose, missing, defective, or incorrect fuel tank cap

- Incorrectly routed or defective EVAP system vacuum and vapor lines

- A malfunctioning or damaged vapor canister

Inspect for charcoal release from the vapor canister.

That is from my service manuals.

Well let's see I decided to try and Figure out the window First..(Driver Side Window C5 2000, Grinding Noise) Easy fix one of the Rubber groments came off one of the track arms put back on fixed.... even when I shut the door you don't hear the rattle of the window YEA.. But while I was working on the window the DIC flashes low Voltage... I then try to roll the window back up after fixing it no Juice battery dead.... Car wont start either..... So maybe that's what throwing the check engine light..... I hope !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I just need to go to Van Buren and sell my body for some money for a Battery or does anyone need a liver or kidney slightly abused but still works.... Any suggestions where to get a battery cheap.. I have a Optima red top now.... I might just have to put a cheap one in for now....

You can always goto napa/checker/pepboys whatever and get a shelf brand for 40 or so bucks... Just plan on changing it out as soon as you can and watch for leaks until then..

The grinding noise is the regulator assembly, if you pull the motor out and look at the cable ends, then look INSIDE the motor backing plate where the cables go into the motor, chances are one of the plastic cable ends came apart and the cable is now riding on the cable insulation coming out of the motor. Ive repaired this before to cut corners due to parts not being available, but the only real way to correctly fix it is replace the regulator assembly. My repairs havent failed to date, but its still a short cut to a correct repair and actually requires more work then just replacing the component.

Evap leak can be anything from a gas cap seal not completely sealing, or more then likely and more common, the evap valve on the driver side of your intake manifold. Follow the throttle body to the intake manifold, and looking at the manifold, the first vacuum port on the driver side has a 90 degree bend plastic line... the seals at the end of the line are known for leaking and will toss that code. check for leaks there, or go to Autozone and buy a piece of 5/16 PCV hose and replace the plastic piece with rubber hose. Same thing for the opposite side which goes down near the fuel line.

those are the most common Evap leaks on the LS1s.
