Route 66 Historic Trail Designation

In theory this sounds like a no-brainer, but you know how government is.  I wonder what "National Trail" status would mean for maintenance of the road.

Route 66 got it's name known, primarily from the Grapes of Wrath book and movie, then followed up with the Route 66 TV series. Route 6 was much more involved in the development of the US than 66, but far lesser known.

I just read a lot. I've also traveled all but about 700 miles of the original 3652 miles of Rt 6 in the Vette. Here's a couple links. http://www.getawaymavens.com/us-route-6/ and http://www.heritagedocumentaries.org/Route6/story.html to keep you entertained.

While US Route 66 was created out of several other highways and tended to have revisions often in it's history, it was decommissioned in 1984,  US Rt 6 still remains mostly true to it's original alignment.

This is a pic of the only remaining section of the original "ribbon road" in OK, that wasn't overlaid by US Rt 66 and then again later by IS-40 and IS -44. http://www.visitmiamiok.com/group-tours/ribbon-road/

If you haven't had enough of Rt 6 and Rt 66, then google Rt 666 for more fun and facts.
