How to keep our C6's running cool in this heat?

This may be a silly question but this is my first summer with a C6. How are you guys keeping your C6's running cool in this heat?  Mine runs nice and cool even in the over 110 degree temps UNTIL I turn the air on.

I drive 98% freeway and I start to see temps of 235-240 on the freeway with the A/C on. As soon as I turn the A/C off, the temps come right back down.

Are you guys running colder thermostats? Any help would be appreciated!

what is done to the vehicle?

Cold air intake, Kooks long tubes, high flow cats, X pipe, full Borla Atak exhaust. There is allegedly a tune but I don't know for sure.

What are your AC pressures?

Have not checked them. I don't have gauges.

An overcharged AC system can cause the car to run hot.  It may be worth having it checked out, if you do not have a set of gauges.

correct that can do it, also blockage in the radiator fins. also i have seen the fan modules not kick on the fan to high over 208. the fan still works but doesn't go full on.

We have a 2000 hear right now fans run but not high speed. Hes been getting to 240 water temp and 250 oil temp.

The 2000 uses three relays to control the fans.  During low speed operation, one relay is energized, allowing current to flow through the fans in series, splitting the voltage between them.  In high speed, two additional relays are energized running the fans at full voltage in parallel. Do you have a scan tool available to let you know if the ECM is commanding high speed?

We have a Tech 2 but customer did not want to spend no money to fix anything. So we never even got to the point of scanning or checking anything. He pretty much just stopped by to see if it was ok to run that hot lol.

My ZR1 will usually reach about 210-215 at hwy speeds when temps climb above 110 and I'll see 220-225 in stop and go traffic.

  • 2 weeks later...

**UPDATE** I narrowed it down to a clogged condenser.  Bought some condenser cleaner at Home Depot and on hot days, on the freeway, with the AC on, it hasn't been over 219 degrees.  I was seeing temps as high as 240 or higher before cleaning the condenser. AC worked great before but i've noticed it's even colder now too.  :thumbs

!:thankyou: for all the replies and suggestions!!

corvettech

its amazing the amount of grit and other debris that gets caught up inside the condensers, these cars are the vacuum cleaners of the highway

Today it's 119-120, so my car can't sit idling for long periods of time at a traffic light with the A/C going full tilt. But, if you pay attention and cycle your A/C on and off, you can keep things manageable.
