No signal on XM radio

Guest

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a 2005 coupe and when I go to XM, I get a "no signal" message no matter where I am.

I also get horrible FM reception. I've checked the connections at the XM tuner and all seems fine.  Anyone experience a problem like this?

Someone had an aftermarket stereo, then took it out when they sold the car.  They probably purchased a base model stereo and put it in the car to trade/sell.

I think there is factory code which might have to be put into the stereo to marry everything up, might even take a Tech II to do the deed.  I'm sure bigger brains than me will chime in

Need some help activating your radio?
You've come to the right place.

Below are a few tips that should help get you up and running in no time.

  1. What's a Radio ID and where can I find it?

Each satellite radio has its very own ID number. You’ll need this number to register your radio in your name and set it up on your account. There are 2 ways to find your Radio ID (also called an ESN or SID). For most radios, the radio ID will be displayed by tuning to channel 0. If it’s not, you can use the “Menu” function of your radio to display it.

    Need More Help:
    Find your radio ID

Some radios have logos that help identify the type of radio:

    Sirius Radios:

    Sirius logo

    XM and SiriusXM Radios:

    XM and SiriusXM logos
  2. Where do I find my Username & Password?

You'll need your username and password to set up your account online. We've tried to make it easy by including your username in your welcome kit. If you don't have that handy just click on what you need below and we'll send it right over to you.

    Send me my username.

    Or, send me my password.

Side Note: If you bought a car and are on a trial subscription, you don't need a username and password to sign up. All you need is the Radio ID and your zip code to get started.

  3. How can I get a radio signal?

This is the exciting part. We need to send out a signal in order to "activate" your radio. Once your radio is activated, you'll be able to see all your channels and start listening. Just remember to have your Radio ID (ESN or SID) with you.

    Activation

    Send a signal now
    & start listening

Let's get this party started. Just turn your radio on with the antenna facing skyward and tune to channel 184 on a Sirius radio or channel 1 on an XM radio. (If your radio is in your vehicle, please make sure it isn't in the garage.) Once you're ready, press the button below and service should be activated within 15 minutes. If the signal didn't seem to take, you can go ahead and request it again.

    Send a signal later

    Activate by Web

    computer

You can request the signal anytime, online. Visit www.siriusxm.com/refresh to have the signal sent at a time that works better for you.

    Call the automated activation hotlinephone

If you'd rather request the signal by phone, call 1-866-635-8634 and follow the automated instruction.

You have to pay a subscription fee normally to activate it.  Get a trial offer and then when it is coming up for renewal call to "cancel".  They'll offer several options but the cheapest is usually 5 months for around $20 plus "fees" whihc total out to $25

The OP posted about his radio not working well at all. I think that's way beyond the "pay to work" XM suggestions.

@TheCMSH probably has the most sound suggestions yet.

Good luck!

Probably an antenna voltage issue, it is likely reflected by a body code.  Sometimes just clearing the code makes the car happy again, sometimes it needs a new receiver, or an antenna repair.  Proper diagnosis will determine the root cause.  Good Luck!

Thanks TheChad. I have had Satellite radio for many years. I have a lifetime subscription in fact.  I called them, gave them the ESN for activation and the unit does not see the satellite.  It always shows "no signal" no matter where I am. It's definitely not a blocked signal issue either.

Senor Dos Fangs is probably spot on like usual.  Sadly on a C6 you can't pull your own codes and reset like on a C5.  I'm not sure if that's something you can borrow from Autozone or Oreilly's either (I've just never had the need), it may have to go to a mechanic with a Tech II.  If nothing else, maybe try disconnecting the battery overnight

Here's my big fear for you, there are a lot of hacks out there, I hope there isn't anything cut/damaged in the antenna line, maybe inspect the connector VERY closely and make sure there isn't a damaged pin or something

Since I have a Tech II, I also have never had the need to make use of Autozone or O'Reilly scanners, but I am pretty certain they can only read generic powertrain data and not body, chassis, or other system codes.

I made this post looking for some help. I don't see where any of this is helpful to anyone. It apears this is a joke to everyone except me. The entire system is being replaced today.  I'm glad I was able to amuse some of you.

I'm sorry, did I post something in this thread that was in any way construed to be a joke?

Dude, just ask for help.  I have a Tech II, I know quite a bit about these things, you could have brought it over, could have pulled codes and come up with a plan of attack. When something kind of dies on the vine thread-wise, folks start messing around. It is nothing against you or anything, just kind of the way this place works.

Thank you sir!!  I really appreciate it!  Like I said, I'm getting the entire system replaced today.  I'm going with a Pioneer unit with Bluetooth and HD radio as well as a new Sirius tuner and back up cam.

Yes, let us know, I'd be curious to find out what they find out.  I'm betting someone passed off some butchery to you, sucks for sure.  Sounds like you'll be getting a wayyyy better set up than OEM now too.  Look forward to seeing and hearing!  :thumbs

Oh, and the inmates here go off the rails pretty easily, don't take it too personal.  Overall a pretty likeable and affable bunch

Got the deck installed today. Pioneer 7" screen with DVD ,HD radio, Bluetooth, Siriusxm. Having the back up cam installed when they do the speakers, amps and JL Audio Stealth box. They were able to use the factory mic in the pillar for the Bluetooth. :thumbs  I also had them install my Escort 9500ix radar detector and dashcam. It all came out perfectly.  I'm very happy!
