Beware the automatic car washes

After at least two heavy cutting compound passes (more in some places), a medium polish pass and a light polish pass, it came out like this.

About 95% of the scratches came out. I don't like to chase the deeper ones and risk going too far through the paint.

For protection, we tried a relatively new two step hybrid coating process called Crystal Serum Light and EXO. The CSL is designed to add hardness to the paint, provide superior chemical resistance, and UV protection. The EXO coating goes on top of the CSL and is extremely hydrophobic.

Together, they last 3-5 YEARS. With careful washing, this car will be protected for a long time.

At a later date, we will be doing the wheels and plastic. Stay tuned!

Holy crap. Been taking cars to automatic car washes for years, (Not my Corvettes), and have not seen that kind of damage. Must have followed a muddy 4X4.

Don't be scared, there is more clear to work with then you think.

I respectfully disagree. I've read many threads how manufacturers have gotten thinner and thinner to save money. Until I can afford a $1500 paint thickness gauge that can read primer, color, and clear thicknesses on top of fiberglass/plastic, I'm not taking that chance. In five years, I've had to repaint exactly zero cars due to causing a clear coat failure. An overy-thinned clear coat may not show problems right away.

It's just my two cents. I get my information from people who know more than I do. I also like to leave some room for future work as swirls and new scratches creep in.
