Have the car back for 2 days and look what I did!!! Needed to be done though. Kind of fun. I have never done this before.

And where is that little sucker???

There it is!!! biggrin.gif

And she's out!!! tongue.gif

Now I need to get to the store for some relocation parts. I was going to use the hole in the front of the block but there's already something there. I think it's the oil temp sensor? Not positive though. So it's going under the Fuel Rail Covers like most other people do. If anyone needs help doing theirs, I might be able to find someone that is willing to help. Just maybe though.

OK, I fixed it. I will definitely post the pictures when I get it done. Went to 3 different parts stores tonight to get some parts and nobody had what I wanted. So it's off to Lopers in the morning.

Here are the part numbers I used for this job. Total price for everything from Lopers was $43.24 with tax not including the sending unit. Use which ever one you want cause like DesertDawg says, it probably won't go out again.
Price for relocating this to a better spot? PRICELESS!!

Mr Husker a fitting at the top end can be eliminated by running a Aeroquip Part # FCM2720
Express hose and fitting sells these locally
Talk to me at work

Out of curiosity, would this be the same for the GTO?

I would think they would be similar but not 100% on that. I have not seen a GTO to know.

This would be the same on a GTO. Thie difference is the GTO has a lot more clearance to get to the back of the manifold. Just a note. That is one of the cleanest relocations I have seen. If you want a sure fire location for all of your relocation parts go to Parker Hose. They can custom make your line to any length and then will not have to worry about hiding the extra. Might save you a little money as you wont have to reduce up or down as they can attach almost any fitting to the end of the hose.

I was going to put a sensor there for the GTO without taking off the intake. Unfortunately its too tight and even the thin wall socket won't fit. I don't want to take out the intake just for an oil gauge.

I was talking to one of the guys at the GTO forum and he said that there is a plate near the oil filter that can be drilled and tapped to accomodate the new oil sensor. We'll see what happens with that.

Just had to deal with this, hard to believe they can't make this part more bullet-proof
Possibly the most unmodified car in the group. Just creamy, pewter, stock, Corvette goodness

So is there any particular brand for the sending unit that is top notch? Not wanting to replace the thing everytime it craps out even if I did make it easier to change. The problem is the unit crapping out. Looking for the best fix is all. Any help makes me greatful.

I thought they were making some better ones till I saw a thread on the Corvette Forum. The guy installed the new brass one they make and it crapped out on him with in a couple hours. The hole in the bottom of the new sender is smaller then the original so that may be some of his problems. He says it goes to 0 after the car warms up and when it's cool, it reads normal. So it's either a heat problem or the hole is to small. He bought the new Borg Warner one I think. If your going to do the relocation thing, I don't think it will matter which one you use. I have had mine done since last April with the Buick sender and have had zero trouble with it so far.

From what I understand when I researched it the Buick sender is pretty bullet proof but you have to do the relocation thing for it to work because there isn't enough clearance to install it on the block.
